What a disappointment. The place become really run down, my room was full of mosquitoes, pretty much everything was broken or didn't work well, the place where they do yoga is falling apart, the boards break easily if you so much as jump on them. But worst of all is the management. They really don't seem to care. If you tell them a problem they act as if it's normal, or might say that it's your fault. They need a lesson in customer service. And, they don't follow Covid. Rarely do guests or staff wear masks, and there is a lot of interaction amongst everyone. The second star is for the people actually working here, the cleaning ladies and the chefs in the kitchen. They're the real stars.

I stayed at this resort while on a group tour of about 15 people and it was a very relaxing experience. It's very different to anything in the states, and I'm not sure I would recommend it to someone who has exceptionally high standards and prefers traditional hotel-style accommodation. It's fairly off the grid but still close to local shops/restaurants. Our yoga instructor was great, didn't make anyone feel self-conscious or embarrassed. The layout and architecture of the resort is very unique, with the main yoga area on an outdoor platform. Our room was clean- sheets were great quality and we had a small kitchenette. I've seen other reviews mention the dogs that live there with the owners, so if that bothers you I wouldn't recommend. They were small and didn't bark or bother us when we were there, but they do roam freely around the premises. Overall, I would say if you really love yoga and want to be away from a lot of tourists, this would be a perfect spot.

We stayed 2 nights in a villa that slept our family of 5. The villa was perfect. It had a very small kitchen with a full size fridge and all the cooking utensils we needed. The outdoor bathroom was cool too! We kept the door closed however so that the mosquitos would not get in our room. The grounds were beautiful as was the yoga area. The included breakfast was the best we had in all of Costa Rica. Homemade gallo pinto, eggs to order, fresh juice, pancakes and toast. Wonderful!!! Wish we would have stayed longer but we plan on returning one day!

The staff are lovely & the pool area was my favourite feature. I originally choose this hotel because it advertised aerial yoga, but when I arrived, there was none. My room was basic, while some of the others looked quite nice. I wasn’t aware that Mal Pais isn’t a swimming beach. The waves are too strong & consist of gravel rather than sand. It is also very remote. A car or a quad are a mist as there are no restaurants, or grocery stores. One must go to Santa Teresa.

After a full on Central American tour I was looking forward to resting and catching up on some sleep. Firstly the positives. I was particularly impressed with Jamie who worked on reception and front of house. Her professional and pleasant personality were really lovely. The kitchen staff were extremely competent and the ceviche was excellent. I can't recommend it enough. The other staff were pleasant and friendly. The pool area is pretty and lovely to spend time in. The yoga instructor, Gaby, was world class. The rooms were nice but sadly the walls/doors are paper thin and you can hear people talking, shouting etc on the other side. Worse was the barking dogs that live on the property. After I raised the dog barking issue for the second time, I was moved for one night to a room on the other side of the complex. However, I had to go back the next night to the noise of the dogs. It was extremely disappointing as undisturbed sleep at night was not possible. The dogs, who seem to be quite old, would bark at regular intervals and the barking sessions would often last for more than forty minutes. This was usually at 3am and then 5am. Management need to deal with this issue. If you are looking for a peaceful resort I would urge you to reconsider Indigo.
