We were traveling in a group of 3 couples and decided to stay here upon the referral of a local friend. Each couple booked a separate room. Upon arrival, we were assigned our bungalow and we were pleasantly surprised! There was a sparking pool on site and the restaurant served delicious pizza and drinks. The room was clean and had everything we needed (AC, fridge, hot water, etc.). It is walking distance to the beach and the cruce (town center) and the staff was very friendly. There were a couple of instances where the electricity went out but that's ICE's fault and not the hotel. The iguanas were a charming addition to the tropical setting. We will definitely be visiting again. You can't beat the price and location!

We loved it here and Johnny was a gracious host. The location was great, just a few steps from town kept it quiet. The first room we were in was great, not trendy but clean and sufficient. The pool was clean and refreshing. We left items on our porch to dry every night and nothing was stolen. Only issue was that somehow they overbooked our room one night and Johnny politely asked if we could help him to accommodate the other travelers by staying in another hotel for one night. It didn't take long to pack up, Johnny paid for taxi there and back, and we got to experience an even nicer hotel up on the hill. Although it was their error he dealt with it professionally and with such an appreciative attitude. True they could stand to update A/C's and fixtures but overall still

I would recommend the Ritmo Tropical to anyone who is looking for a nice, clean, safe place to vacation. I have stayed in a few different bungalows in the last 4 years, all are spacious, very clean, have AC and TV, showers with hot and cold water and all have their nuances which is part of the charm of this hidden gem in Mal Pais. The food at the restaurant is amazing as well. Breakfast can be ordered every morning (except Thursday which is their day off) and is absolutely delicious and free coffee refills all day! The pizzeria is open for dinner which is where a lot of the locals will choose to get their pizza because it is so good. However, the main reason I keep going back and have brought my friends and family with me is because of the Ritmo staff. Jonathan the

We have travelled to Costa Rica numerous times over the years and have fallen in love with Mal Pais, a beautiful corner of this planet where a global community gathers to surf, relax and enjoy what the locals call Pura Vida. Hotel Ritmo Tropical is truly our home away from home. It is small hotel with wonderful private bungalows surrounding a well maintained pool with lush, tropical foliage everywhere you look. The staff and family that run the hotel are so welcoming and kind, some of the most trust worthy and wonderful people you will ever meet. Jonathan helped us numerous times over our stays arranging taxis for us, helping us with fishing excursions and was always there for us when we needed him. The restaurant at the hotel serves amazing pizza during dinner hours and the

Stayed here for 4 nights in mid January at the recommendation of a friend who found that it was economical. The rooms were small but clean and the location was good for being able to walk or cab to local beach. The surroundings around the hotel were also kept pretty clean. The negatives, like a few others have complained, hot water is an issue. We didn't have it for 2 days and when the hotel manager sort of fixed the problem. It was hot sometimes and luke warm to chilly other times, but better than just cold as it had been upon arrival. The biggest issue I had was that I regretted having the hotel manager enter our room to fix the water issue because it was then known we would be gone most of the day and there was enough time for someone to go through my belongings to steal
