Tortuga lodge is a real gem - a unique, special place in a beautiful setting with excellent service. We booked the 2 day tour which included transport from San Jose and then (in our case) a flight to Arenal at the end of our stay. From start to finish the whole experience is superb - the river journey to the...

If you set out to design the ideal lodge on the edge of an absolute gem of a tropical rainforest this would just about be perfect. This is a professionally managed lodge, that understands its clients. The rooms are large and comfortable. I would spend the extra and book a room on the upper level. Better privacy and better views...

Dear Geddes_7, It’s quite a compliment to say that our organization and tours was by far the best you experienced during your two-week vacation. There is a reason for this. What a wonderful experience! The people are very friendly and knowledgeable, the rooms are very comfortable and the food is FABULOUS! We were not expecting gourmet food so far from a major city, but the menu changed daily and every dish was fantastic. There are jungle trails right from the lodge where we saw monkeys, sloths, frogs and so many...

Dear AvianiSiegel, If you're interested in wildlife and birding, Tortuga Lodge is a must see in Costa Rica. This is one of the places where you most likely to see a great variety of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. For people interesting in this type of activity, it's a match made in heaven. AND it makes it so much nicer...

Wonderfully clean rooms, fresh air, balconies overlooking the lagoon, no noise other than nature...a really special place. The food is exceptionally fresh and the staff very kind and patient. The activities were wonderful. We would love to return.

Dear Fraser M, Please do come again! We are getting quite a number of guests that come every year for longer stays. They say that it's like coming to visit family, only with the sights and sounds of a lowland tropical surrounding you and the Tortuguero River as the view from you front porch. Large airy room, gourmet food, excellent staff, wonderful excursions...we cannot say enough about this place. We saw so many animals and birds! We recommend the kayaking, the boat ride, the walk to the top of the small hill for the view, and the daily nature walk around the grounds. Take a walk on the beach if you want to feel...

We stayed at this hotel in March 2017 and had a great visit. Lots of wildlife on the property - iguana, toucans, monkeys and many other birds. They have a nature trail on the property too. The restaurant is very good and one sits overlooking the river. The rooms do not have A/C, but that is great as the windows...

Dear John P, It sounds like you were a great fit for the lodge. It's designed for nature lovers. The lack of AC allowing screens on the windows affords guests the luxury of going to sleep and waking to the sounds of a vibrant and fascinating lowland tropical rain forest. We hope to see you at Tortuga Lodge again someday....

We stayed for three nights and had a fabulous time. We arrived by plane and had a journey of about a minute across the river to the hotel. The room was a balcony room which I would recommend as you do have to walk passed the downstairs rooms. It's not a problem but just our preference. The room was a...

Dear sbsutclife, You gave Norton, whom we all love. I thought I'd share his bio with the readers. Understanding his history sheds some light on how a tour with Norton would be a wonderful experience. Better known as “Putut,”, Norton was born on March 10, 1964, in Rio Maíz, Nicaragua. When Somoza lost the Nicaraguan Revolution to the Sandinistas, Norton's...

The rooms were great, and we loved the humorous signs in the room from the monkey and ant unions. (You have to stay at the lodge to understand this one). The staff were welcoming and gracious. Only a short boat ride from the entrance to Tortuguero National Park, Tortuga Lodge provides a comfortable and relaxing home for a multi-day stay.
