From the main road to the lodge it's +-10 km on dirt roads. About halfway, you need to leave your own wheels under a thatched roof and someone from the lodge comes to pick you up in a big fat 4x4 Mahindra. To get to the lodge is an adventure in itself as you need to cross several rivers, one of them the big Rii Bananito. After a night of heavy rain, the river becomes uncrossable. One evening we had to wait for quite a while for the water to recede. The lodge is awesome. Entirely built out of wood, rooms are facing the valley. There are 2 sun-powered lightbulbs in the room/bathroom and you can charge batteries in the main office. Keep in mind that you're surrounded by jungle. Walkways are uphill/downhill and you need to be physically OK. Meals (delicious food!!) are taken in the beautiful dining area, by candle light in the evening. And the birding is nice. Parrots fly by, loudly squawking. It's not a cheap place, but it's run with nature preservation in mind.

This is an amazing ecolodge that protects the Selva Bananito Preserve. Caesar is a friendly host and Alonso was the best guide. All the meals are delicious and filling and the dinners were especially nice. Please make sure to book directly with the lodge to get the best room. Sofia was very helpful with info and directions. I highly recommend this ecolodge if you are going to the Cahuita area!

I have to say that my time in Selva Bananito Lodge was a incredible adventure experience. The staff and the owners are very special to the adventure. There are tour guides that really know the beauty of the natural reserve and explain very well each natural plant or animal from the zone. The rooms are really big and the best tv screen is the beauty of sleeping with the views from the mountain and the surround system of the nature. The adventure begins from the moment you drop off from the highway and need to cross rivers and mountain in order to reach this magical place. And you cant miss the amazing oportunity of taking the Auto Gyro experience where certified captain of a "helicopter" style plane takes you to a tour above all the reserve and the views from Panama to Costarican caribean beaches, explaining how big is the reserve and its amazing views. It is a one in a lifetime experience. Last but not least, there is a presentation from the owner of the place, where he explains the story of the project, how his family roots begin with the place and the purpose of his lifetime work in order to save the planet, this special message really touch our hearts and makes us conscious in order to change the way we see important topics as climate change, plastic garbage, among others. I really recommend this place to visit, learn and have one of the best experience in your life! Thanks to the owners for this amazing experience!

Its a trip to get there. Be sure to go on the walks, learn about the trees and animals there. Take a gyrocopter flight to see it from above, or a horseback ride to cross long fields. But most importantly! Relax.

A n experience from the moment you meet the truck from the lodge to the time you pick up your car again. The access is along a dusty winding dirt track to a secure parking place where you transfer to the lodge's truck to traverse a river and more dirt roads. The ecolodge comprises of small cabins which are spacious with large balconies with hammocks which are ideal for birdwatching. The place uses very little energy although there are lights and a fan in the rooms which also have a fresh water cistern for drinking water. Recycling is paramount and solar panels are used for electricity and hot water. All meals are provided and are very good. There is a communal dining room that is lit by candle light by night. Jurgen the owner gives talks in the evening to explain the ethos behind Selva Bananito which are inspiring. Their aim is to educate and inspire people to appreciate the primary and secondary rainforests and to back efforts to maintain this vital resource There are a number of activities available as well as self guided trails around the grounds. The stuff were amazingly knowledgeable and provided the best guided walks we had in three weeks in Costa Rica. The staff are all friendly, helpful and welcoming. Harvey and Alan were great guides we only stayed two nights but would have loved to stay for longer. Definitely a place to return to. We loved it
