I guess the owners/hosts have changed previously due to corona as the older reviews are nothing like the place is in Dec 2020 and Jan 2021! They’re having several EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE DOGS! They’re behaviour has nothing to do with being a guard dog! They approach/attack people on the PUBLIC street who just walk by and even guests and owners of surrounding properties while they are on their own properties. The dogs come as close as 10cm, bark nonstop and demonstratively show their teeth. When people back off the dogs still don’t let go and follow the people! One dog even followed the neighbour across the street all the way on the neighbour’s property to his door!!! When the owners yell the dogs do not react at all! Sometimes they just watch from the balcony and laugh! In those unpredictable moments the dogs are just completely out of control and should be keep on chains 24/7. There is a Gate but it doesn’t hold the dogs back as the hedge has huge holes where they can easily walk through. It is to mention that the dogs are quite BIG (they look like German Shepard’s!). We’ve seen locals who grabbed rocks or stick along the street before they walk passed so they have something to defend! The dogs also stroll through the neighbourhood and poo in front of the house or bungalows. The hosts don’t care even though they see it so we had to remove it on order to not having the smell in our deck for days. The dogs as well bark a lot. During the day as well as at night. No matter if someone walks by, a bird is landing on a tree or a leave falls down: they bark. So expect to wake up several times at night because of that. It takes about 10 minutes for them to calm down again, but in those 10 minutes they bark flat out! The bungalows itself are alright. The ad said something about “view and beachfront” which is a clear lie as there is no view and the ocean is 200m away. The next public beach where you can swim around 650m. Nonetheless the place itself is alright but the problem with the dogs is a clear NO-GO! They need to get their dogs under control as this is just DANGEROUS! Especially with kids I would never ever consider to visit this place! The smell of weed often coming from their house underlines the „we don’t give a....“ attitude! The skinny lady seems alright but the others living on the property and running this place are the worst people ever! Like the guy having the trunk of the car open and playing loud music (some weird type of rap+reggae) so all the people within 30m have trouble having a conversation. Doing that from 7am until late afternoon!! The guy is completely stoned nonstop (smoking marijuana all day!) which is a problem as well when he’s on his motorbike or in his Mitsubishi Lancer speeding through town with no care at all. Seen him almost running over some tourists when leaving the little path into the main road. One day we had breakfast on the deck. The same guy (who’s driving the grey mitsubishi lancer) was walking by. He was already smoking weed and was kinda wasted (at 8am!!). When he was around 20ft/7m away he stopped, looked at us while we were eating, took a deep breath, burped as loud as possible and then started to laugh and walked off. There is something seriously wrong with this guy! The place itself is alright even though overpriced for what it is but the hosts are the most reckless and careless people we’ve met in over 3 years of full time travelling! Disgusting people with no respect at all who don’t give a damn about anyone else!

This is a beautiful setting! Several cabinas all well equipped and very well kept. The cabinas are clustered around a very beautiful garden. Owners are great and very helpful. I highly recommend this place, I only wish we had planned to stay at this location longer.

An amazing two weeks, sad for it to end. First time to Costa Rica and SO glad we picked Cahuita and staying here. Cahuita is a fairly quiet, laid back little town. Cabina Luna is the perfect location...it is barely out of the main area..but a more peaceful spot and you can hear the waves at night, whilst being surrounded by lush gardens. David and Enrica are a wonderful couple, present every day at some point..always there to answer any questions. Super helpful with any recommendations needed. Just full of Pura Vida. Also Maria who cleaned and brought us fresh towels etc is a lovely person. We really appreciated her work. The cabin....basic but has everything. We stayed in Rosada Grand...so had 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. Has coffee maker, toaster, oven, big fridge. Good wifi. Hammock on patio. Recycling, regular and organic...which I appreciated, especially after spending 2 weeks in Florida with NO recycling. Costa Rica has an excellent recycling program. No AC....which is a big step for me in 30c ! But really it was doable....fans. Quickly learnt to be like a sloth from 12-2. It does get a little cooler at night and sometimes we even needed a sheet. The patio area with hammock is cooler for a large part of the day. We could sit for hours just watching nature. We were even lucky enough to get great neighbours in the other cabins and made new friends. The gardens are beautiful, full of fruit and flowers and well maintained. We saw a sloth, who is still in the corner tree! The plant in front of us served as a giant bird bath after rain...so we saw many different birds, lots of humming birds. Also there is a resident poisonous arrow frog! Of course there is the 5am howler monkey “alarm clock”, which I loved. We got up for a 5:30 walk before it got hot ..and to see the sunrise at the beach. Bliss. Just minutes walk to the first beach, turning left at the road. Swam every day...watch the waves and rip tides. Very strong. Short walk to all the restaurants, bank, groceries etc. SO many delicious food places for such a small town! We rented a car from San José. It was good to have to drive down to Manzanilla (great beach for swimming) and check out the small towns. Visited Jaguar centre and Tree of Life. Walked the National Park from both entrances, amazing. Please check out the Ara Project, Manzanilla ...an amazing experience with the giant Green Macaws. (Tips... bring ear plugs...because NATURE.....and also a lot of barking dogs. Make sure you note the two different voltage electrical plugs!! Also if this is before you come to Costa Rica..and you like a drink...buy alcohol in the airport in duty free, before you go through customs. You can get 5 bottles per person...and it is WAY cheaper than buying it after. (They don’t seem to care how many bottles you buy) I would definitely recommend staying in Cahuita and at Cabina Luna! Pura Vida!

5 minute walk to beach, ocean sound from across road, 5 minute walk to town action, beautiful gardens and caretakers who can’t do enough for you. The price is right. The beds are great! Having a kitchen is plus! Only 5 cabins full of Canadians right now! We have been here 2 weeks and super happy with accommodation! Love the caretakers=David and Enrica who make sure our stay is a perfect!

These rooms were very nice. Simple but clean and well supplied. The porch (with hammock!) was spacious and looked into the beautiful garden. The bilingual host, David, was very friendly and had many helpful recommendations. And the location is great, making it an easy walk to town as well as Playa Negra. No air conditioning but was comfortable with the fans ( in October). Highly recommended.
