In Condovac the rules are not for everyone. If you are a member of condovac or have decided to visit for vacation, I warn you that the rules for use of pools, those that are just for show. The installations that are not in compliance, and are more of a joke for those of us that that believe in family spaces for adults and children separate. Thanks to a decision made by the manager, according to the receptionist, children are able to enter with diapers or without and bathe next to you, play with water guns, throw water to one another, and even learn how to swim. Even if you don't want to believe that. If you were told that this space was only for adults, that is not the case, you were fooled. And if you complain nothing happens, they don't care. So there you go, it's up to you if this is the place you want to rest.

Go to Condovac for the ocean views, friendly staff, beach access, and nice pool area. Do not go for a luxury room, rooms need updating and our room lacked an ocean view due to overgrown landscaping. We had breakfast in their main restaurant everyday which had amazing ocean views and great staff. Large buffet but high in carbs so we mostly stayed with the fresh made omelets and fruit. They had Blue Jays that were entertaining because they would sit our the restaurant railing and try to get your food if you let them! Beach area is fantastic with hammocks, lounge chairs, refreshments, restrooms, showers, beach volleyball. You can rent jet skis, banana tube rides, snorkeling gear. Howler monkeys and iguanas came to visit several times. We purchased couples massage at their Spa and enjoyed it. Restaurant chef sent us chocolate covered strawberries to our room for our anniversary, nice touch!

I actually booked this hotel with hotels.com and this hotel is a VIP hotel with free upgrades and spa credit if you’re a VIP Gold member. I’m here on a Monday and the hotel is empty. Manager at the front desk says they’re completely full and won’t give me the upgrade because of the price difference (which defeats the purpose of being a VIP hotel)! Doesn’t give me spa credit either. So unlike the usual open and loving Costa Rica vibe! The rooms are basic and like the other comments, dated. The views are beautiful though and is all you’re getting for the money

We stayed at Condovac in February 2021. If you want everything to be perfect and fancy, you may be disappointed, but we like to travel for experiences and outdoor beauty. OK, so the rooms are outdated in terms of decor, but I did NOT travel from the northern US to Costa Rica to sit inside a room. Plus, the room we had offered all we needed - a place to sleep, kitchen amenities, and a clean bathroom (with amazing water pressure in the shower). Although the resort area is very hilly, it has shuttles that run around all day long, with little wait in between. That slight change in altitude allowed you to be at the beach one minute, and eating on top of the hill with a beautiful view the next. The food was wonderful (we ordered mostly local dishes to truly experience the culture), and the staff was very friendly - they even helped me learn the Spanish words for many things, no matter how many times I asked. :-) You might notice that our travel time was during COVID, and the staff was very conscientious of (very politely) asking guests to wear masks where required, wash hands before entering the restaurant, and offering hand sanitizer. I don't know that I have a "worst" thing about our experience, other than I wish we could have stayed longer in such a beautiful country. As far as our "best" part - I would highly recommend the tour group, Costa Rica Unique, who is onsite at the resort (outdoor office right by the beach). They transfer Condovac guests to & from the airport, and they took us on two wonderful day trips in between. They offer a variety of packages for tours, but will customize as much as possible, provided the entire group agrees. They very much did this for us, as the group we travelled with to CR were the only ones on the tour bus that day. We did a modified version of the Volcano, Waterfall, Zipline tour - as the Ziplines were closed at the time. The people who work for and operate CR Unique are top notch! Memo-one of the owners, Eddie-tour guide, and Sidar-driver were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful!! They loved sharing their country with us, we learned a lot from them, and they (especially Eddie!) loved when we asked more questions. We will definitely use them again, and consider them friends to visit on our next trip! Above and beyond: On our last day in CR, we had a minor glitch in COVID paperwork at the airport (make sure your doctor has SIGNED your proof of recovery paperwork!), and CR Unique returned to the airport, found a place to take COVID tests and drove us there, got us three quotes for hotels in a little town we wanted to stay in for the extra 2 days in CR, and even stopped at the grocery store for us on the way to the hotel we chose! They turned a negative in our travels into a positive, and we were very grateful for them. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and it will definitely not be our last - much of that is due to the so many of the wonderful "Ticos" we encountered while we were there! Pura Vida!

We stayed for 4 nights with the all-inclusive package. The staff was great, some speak English and were friendly. The food menu had limited choices but the quality was great. We tried to eat something different for each meal and were pleased each time. The bar drinks mostly tasted like they forgot the alcohol, although the in-pool bar didn't seem to suffer from this. Speaking of the pool, there are three of them, all situated together. There is a children's pool with a low water level, a regular pool with a deeper level, and an infinity pool with a bar. They were all clean, but they were in need of maintenance. Tiles missing, large pieces of concrete breaking away, etc. The pool towels were old and faded, they used to be blue and you get a card to trade for one which you get back when you turn in the towel. Our cards looked like someone was using them to jimmy a door with them. There's a $20 fee if you lose the card or towel. All in all, the pools were just like the rest of the resort, old and tired. There is a shuttle or tram that runs every few minutes all around the resort. These are trucks with a 9 person capacity body on the back. They were old and worn but did the job. The resort is built on a steep hill, we walked it once and then rode the tram the rest of the time. The beach is black or dark brown sand. There is a gift shop by the beach. We didn't find any of the things shown in the photos such as jet skis or sailing. I did see two kayaks but did not inquire how to use them. The room had plenty of insects inside, there was a gap about 1/2 inch below the front door which allowed them in. All of the furniture was old and worn out. One bed was completely broken in the center and was unusable. The casement windows look to be original (I estimate 40 years) and don't seal up. The in-room AC system are mini splits and there were two, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. They barely keep up due to the air gaps. The doorknob for the room was a regular residential style and not really secure. There is a $25 fee if you lose your key they said. The room was cleaned daily by housekeeping. We noticed the only time they wore masks was when someone could see them. The reception area was outdoors and the wind was blowing so bad they had to constantly chase their paperwork. They didn't speak English at reception and don't handle cash due to COVID. When I tried to speak with reception, she called someone on the phone that spoke English to translate. There is an ATM near this area. There were no instructions or directions for the amenities, we just wandered around finding things. They allowed us to take a picture of a map with no legend which was basically useless. When asking questions, answers were vague or in Spanish. I've stayed in worse places but not often. If I couldn't find any other option for lodging, I'd consider sleeping in the car before going back, considering the price. I would rate this right up there with any other old run-down establishment that should cost around $29 USD/night, any more than that, it's not worth it. The view is wonderful! I'm talking Million Dollar view! The restaurant waitstaff is wonderful, it's a shame they work there instead of someplace nice. I hope they are paid well but I doubt it.
