We stayed here back in January 2010. I recently started using TripAdvisor so I decided to review my stay here... I wish I did more research before booking this place. Originally we had a reservation for 5 nights but left after one. Where to start... The place was nothing like their website. We stayed in one of the rooms, not...

Very simple, actually spartan, but right on the endless playa grande. Getting up early for a long beach walk, meals on your veranda, surf, watching the turtles, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. There are more comfy (and artificial) places nearby, if you however are an outdoors person, appreciate simplicity and pura vida, this might be for...

this hotel is literally on the beach. it has the best beach location out of all the hotels and hostels we saw while at playa grande. i stayed for 2 nights, 3 days with my partner and it was in the perfect spot for surfing. the hotel owner, mario, and his staff were all very friendly and helpful. the restaurant...

Well, this is absolutely one of my favourite places to stay whenever I go to Costa Rica. I have been here 3 times (the last trip included 4 kids). Each stay was a pleasure and full of great memories. This is a very remote, yet modernized resort located right on the beach at Playa Grande. Miles and miles of white...

This place has location, location. Just by the sea but not the really surfy endand within walking distance of Tamarindo ( much nicer than Loneley Planet leads you to believe). It is basic but clean. we stayed in the rustic wooden bungalows and self catered ( do not expect matchign crockery!). When we stayed there was an issue with their...

I booked a room at Villa Baula because I wanted to visit Playa Grande for one day and Rip Jack and Las Tortugas were both full. This place has an interesting web site and Baula in Costa Rican is for the Leatherback turtle, and I love the turtles. I checked in and the place looked like an old west village...

We have stayed here many times in the past and have always enjoyed our stay. While we were there this time, there were never more than 4-6 other people in the entire complex. It was like our personal retreat. Our only complaint was the fact the you could only get someting to eat or drink and hour and a half...

Fifteen of us stayed at Villa Baula this past August. We had a great time. We rented the five double bunglows. They were rustic but clean. The staff was very friendly and patient with us non spanish speaking guests. Food was simple but good. The beach was beautiful and not crowded. Pool was clean. We will go back!!!!

Please be aware that the restauraunt at this hotel is not open and has not been for some time. So unless you plan to bring your own food, be prepared to walk one mile each way to the nearest mini-super or restauraunt. After surfing at the AMAZING Playa Grande beach all day, it was a bit tiring to walk when...

The website (and the previous review) doesn't do this place justice. We got charming 2 BR cabin on stilts that had a mini kitchen, huge comfortable porch, electricity and hot water. If you don't come with the expectation of a resort, you'll be happy. But it is a bit primitive and isolated, which we loved. You're also right at the...

“service could have been better because there were only 2 staff so the restaurant is barely open and has very limited breakfast options. rooms were very good but don't leave food out because tiny, biting ants will find their way into your room and bite you. no air conditioning but the windows are so breezy that you don't need it.”

“If you wish to cook your food, have a fridge, and more room to move around, I recommend one of the villas instead of a room. Rooms however are very spacious and comfy.”
