This place was friendly and clean! Great stop over for a night or two and away from the main street where it had way too much of a gringo theme.
It's a very short walk to the beach. A safe area for parking too.

Cute hotel close to the beach and restaurants.There is an opening in the bathroom instead of an window, so there are a large number of ants in the room. Very clean with a nice balcony for relaxing in the evening. There is a locked gate at the front of the property to provide security when you are away. Great price for a room just a few steps from the beach.

The owners Carlos and Maria are just robbers! They rent a house close to their hotel that we rented 2 weeks in july with a friend and our 3 children. They introduced in the house many times while we where at the beach and broke the robin in the kitchen. When we went to see them they were always busy and never came. The last night when we came back from the beach they changed the lock of the door and when we asked them to open the door to take back our things they asked us to pay 500 dollars!!! We went in the police where they were very well known for many other cases like this!My children had to stay outside waiting for 3 hours late at night before we could get in to take back our things of course without paying. They just try to build their house robbing tourist. Really watch out they're dangerous

My family stayed here in July,, what a great time, cabinas are clean, Maria is the owner and what a delight, she made everything perfect for our family, price is very reasonable, close to beautiful beach and town, Maria was up early cooking breakfast for us and up late making sure we had all we needed....Best service I have had to date in Costa rica..will go back!! The beginning of a family vacation. Close to beach and bars; it was the ideal location. The prior tenants left dirty dishes in drainage, i can overcome that; 3 of 4 rooms hotter than hades; still, we can handle. More mosquito bites in cabina than in the rainforest, I've got a bit of a problem. The owner was surly at best, downright rude normally. Good luck

When we arrived to Cabinas Don Carlos, we were a bit astonished to see that it was someone's home. The room they gave us didn't include it's own private bathroom. The reservation said, most rooms with private bathroom. However we counted 7 rooms sharing 1 bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower. The room has AC and there was WiFi; however, the AC unit was so old it made a lot of noise. The towels were ripped and the matress had a sinking hole in it. You could also hear to people's conversations as the walls are very thin. The floors had cracks were you could see the garage underneath and our luggage barely fit. We had to put it on the bed to be able to take things out. We didn't expect a 5 star hotel, but this was lower from our expectations considering that we paid about the same for a really good quality hotel elsewhere in Costa Rica. The fact is that this is a hostel with shared bathroom. There can be up to 13 people at the time or more. That's if all the rooms are occupied. I would recommend you pay a bit more and go elsewhere.

As we see more hotels in Costa Rica, this one was between worse ones. For money you pay one would expect more. I review only downstairs room - Unfortunately we had room downstairs (full upstairs) and you can hear every step of your neighbours due to wooden floor. Staff is very helpful. Beach is close, but be sure you can find better beaches in Costa Rica.

Carlos and Maria are people you must be careful of. At first they seemed very nice and helpful. I walked in with 3 of us total. We did not have anything booked and it was a high season weekend granted. Maria said she only had 2 night for us and that she would have to set up mattress in the new kitchen they built to stay overnight, we agreed since there was no where else to go, she still charged us a full night there! The second night we stayed there she comes into our "room" aka the kitchen and tells us that booking.com overbooked the rooms and she has to give our room to someone else and if we could sleep in the kitchen on the floor again or she would return our money and we would have to go someplace else. We agreed since we didnt have a real choice in the matter. Needless to say they were having a party that night in "our room" aka the kitchen so we crashed on the couches upstairs, 3 of us, and Carlos came to us at around 3am to tell us we can go back to the kitchen to sleep there. The ceiling fans were not working in the kitchen and my friend went to Carlos to ask him to fix it or something and he began to yell at her. He then kicked us out of his home at 5am! They owed us money and we had to flee since he was yelling and cursing at my friend to get out! These are just the facts, do what you want with this information, but I am sure if we looked a bit more we could have found something else! Good luck!

It was very reasonably priced and pretty clean. It is not a good place if you are backpacking alone or want a social environment, but if you are just going alone and need a cheap place to stay, it was very nice, and the staff was lovely, and it was right in the center of town! I would recommend it.
