LOCATION, LOCATION. LOCATION. This hotel is in the middle of all the action. No car needed as the restaurants, gift shops, night clubs and the beach are all right here. New management took over in December 2018 and have been making improvements every day. We eliminated the noisy pool and restaurant at the request of many past customers and replaced them with an agreement with Café Playa Beach Club. Our guests are encouraged to use the beach club which has an almost private beach, pool, bar and restaurant. It is a very short taxi ride or a healthy walk to the beach club. We are located 300 meters from Coco Beach which is more public but still very nice. Included in our hotel is a small casino to try your luck. Of course we have wi-fi (if you have time to use it), an ice cream shop and a tour company are located on either side of our entrance. Across the street is our restaurant, Hot Wok, featuring what many say is the finest Asian food in all of Guanacaste province.

The best hotel in downtown Playas Del Coco. With that said there were some issues for my wife. She didn’t find the bathroom clean enough, they only give you two small towels total, and the room safe didn’t work. Now that the negatives are out of the way.
We got a ride from the airport using tours-your-way dotcom. I mention them because Mainor was very prompt and professional. Playas Del Coco is not a typical tourist town. I did not want a typical tourist town. Coco Beach Hotel is where you want to be in this not typical tourist town. Upon checkin they gave us a nice frozen drink. The lobby is very nice with high ceilings and looks very exotic. The pool is very clean and refreshing. Checkin went quickly and we were escorted to our rooms. They only have WiFi in the lobby, but our room was close enough to use it. The room is very basic. Think of a Motel 6 with comfortable beds and a 1980s TV. I loved the bed, it was like sleeping on a cloud. We walked around the city and to the beach. That took about 15 minutes. We were hot, so we went into the casino to get some AC. The casino is very nice and cools you off quickly. We played some poker and blackjack and broke even. Went outside to get a Falafel at the Lebanese place. It was really good. Then some street performers started juggling fire. Tossed some food to wild dogs running down the street. Then had drinks across the street at Coconutz… Free WiFi! Went back to the room where we got a great night sleep. We could not hear anything except the sound of the AC all night. The next morning got up and had a nice free fruit plate by the pool. We sat closer to the street and watched the town wake up. It was very nice experience. We walked over to the grocery store for a toothbrush. Then as we checked out we requested a taxi. They called and had a “real” taxi show up. There are a lot of people that drive around and just say they are a taxi. And they are not a real taxi. I thought it was great. It is not a resort, it is a hotel.

I recently stayed here from Oct29th to Nov1 and was very dissatisfied with our stay. Room was basic and fair for the price we paid ($77 usd a night) unfortunately dealt with cockroaches.
Location was supposed to be ideal but ended up being a hassle, very noisy and far from amenities (some sort of motorbike rally from 9-11pm was obnoxiously loud on a Tuesday that consisted of excessive engine revving).
The pool included in our stay was not on site and there was no shuttle provided as it was written on our confirmation. We did have access to 2 great facilities- one was a 20 min walk and the other was 50mins. We had to arrange for transport while we were there in order to use them. Gym was also available at one of the offsite facilities.
The complimentary breakfast was across the street at Dave’s All Day Breakfast. Ate there once and decided not to go back.
Lastly, just poor communication we were told all this offsite info when we inquired upon arrival which was disappointing but stayed positive. We walked to the closet option to find out that it was closed since Oct16th until Nov1 for maintenance. Again not an issue just a waste of our time and more disappointing news. When I mentioned this to our front desk she claimed to have no idea and would call to investigate. Never got back to us about the issue and no reply to an email I had sent to hotel.
Overall yes it’s a cheap deal but you’re better off spending the extra $10 a night for a much more comfortable stay elsewhere. We booked this place specifically for the pool, gym and breakfast all of which were not actually available or offsite.

swimming pool not available at location and only with prior reservation in the place where the hotel has the agreement and the big swimming pool closed at all times. and even if you make the reservation is not as simple as go because you have a timeframe that it is almost impossible to enjoy it.
room is poorly illuminated because it has no light bulb in the roof it only has one lamp next to the door and the one in the bathroom and in the small place for closet.
it was not clean either, it had hair in the bathroom and the place was rented for 3 persons and only 2 towels and took almost a complete day to get the additional towel.
the parking lot they say they have it is not available until after night time according to the receptionist and it was later than 11pm and no available yet because they had to
do other activities there that made unavailable the parking lot and you must have to park in the street.
the restaurant is awful, the waitress takes the plates with the hands inside the plate with no other instrument and almost touching the food.
even though the breaksfast is included you have not even the availability to order - the waiters always assumed we wanted all the breakfast when I didn’t want the breakfast just the bread for example and they always fill the plate with all the breakfast includes - but again the do not ask for your opinion.
the outside restrooms (the ones available for all) it was always closed and no toilet paper.
casino poorly attended - I got in and the dealers not even moved and continue playing in their cellphones with no willingness to even ask what you wanted to play or even saying hello.
it is really the only the location I can say it is closed to the beach but i will rather stay far from here than choosing this stay again

Avoid this hotel
Not a 4 star hotel as rated.
Rooms were very basic. My room card didn't work so I was given the master key for the hotel and asked not to "take advantage".
They do not have a pool as advertised.
Breakfast was inedible, the eggs and black beans tasted days old

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT waste your money here. I booked this resort then canceled it within an hour of booking it…their site says cancel 30 days prior to your stay, i canceled it over 2 months before my stay. They still charged me the full price and refuse to respond to my inquiries. I was planning on staying 12 nights so I was charged a lot of money!!! They do not respond!!!! Don’t waste your time or money here. I’m glad I didn’t stay there because seeing it on the outside looked scary!!!

Details state 2 pools and a poolside bar. There is no pool at this hotel. We stayed here as we thought it would be great for the kids to have a pool for 2 days at the end of our vacation. We overpaid as there was not one. Reception advised that there was a pool club we could drive 15 minutes to get to.
No hot water for shower. Only 3 working plugs in the room including the ones needed for fridge and lamps. No overhead light so the lamps are needed. No spa facilities that I could see. No common area or coffee/tea available as stated.
Also the 24 hour reception and security is not at all accurate. We had to leave the hotel at 4am on Jan 1st to head to the airport for our flight home. We told reception the day before that we would be leaving at that time. When we went down to leave the front gate was locked. We had no way out of the property. We were locked in. I started knocking on a few doors to find the staff but I was unsuccessful. There was someone passed out on the toilet in the women’s bathroom with pants down and lights out. This person was completely non-responsive but I did not have time to see if they were “ok”. My husband searched reception and found a bowl of about 50 keys as well as a pouch with room keys. He spent half hour trying to find the right key for the lock to get out and we was finally successful. We made it out on time but I’m sure glad this was not an emergency!
Close to the beach and restaurants. So location is great. Breakfast was not bad.
I messaged the property and eventually received a response that the security was at the small locked/fenced parking lot 100 feet away surveying the 5 cars in the lot while we tried for half hour to leave the locked property. It appears from other reviews that this has actually happened before. Locking everyone in with no escape route is a major safety issue!!
Property Details were inaccurate and I would never stay here again!!

People who wrote a good review for this place really cant care about value for money and what I feel is dishonest advertising. So expensive for what it is. We had to go into the asian restaurant on site to beg for a glass to drink out of. No swimming pool here and that was why we booked this place. So many better places to stay in coco area. Avoid this place unless you like bad rooms, the electrics are wrong, my wife's hairdryer came on at a 10th of it's normal speed. You have to take a light out of action to put the fridge on. The bathroom is so small the door misses the toilet by inches, this makes it a struggle to get in and out. The tiles in the shower are cracked and the water literally dribbles out. I am putting a claim into booking.com who I booked it through as the advertising was so different to the place. Please be aware of this before trying this place.

If you have any ability to stay somewhere else in town, do that. Read the prior reviews, they are true. It is *not* a "4 star" hotel or "resort" of any kind. It's not even a decent motel.
No hot water (barely lukewarm). Rooms are grimey. Smells like sewage. Some bedding and towels are stained with brown. Rooms and public areas in poor condition. Club across the street blasts loud music until 3am, and the walls here are thin. I am not even mentioning the many maintenance and service failures that we encountered (reception not helpful, management unresponsive).
I do need to give it props for having a decent hot breakfast option. That is the only aspect that met or exceeded expectations.
If you're 22 and want to party all night, this probably works as a crash pad. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and avoid this place unless you enjoy loud bass in your pillow at night, sewage up your nose, and cold showers.

IMO it's not necessary
We rented from Budget a few doors away.
Ken you can get the continental breakfast which is a beautiful large fruit platter for free. For a charge of $2 You can get either the American or, Costa Rican breakfast, both of which are filling and delicious.
