This is across from the Coco Azul, which was listed in the Lonely Planet, but this is a better choice. It is $5 cheaper per night, and Luis and his wife were extremely friendly, letting us use their coffee maker in our room, loaning us an extra fan, and always being on hand to answer our questions. He knows where the cheap grocery stores are, about the dive shops in town, etc. Excellent English as well. The room was very clean. Close to the beach and the main bar street (4 minute walk), but far enough away to get away from the noise.

Hi everyone,
Just to share with everyone my good experience with Coco Alegre in Playas del Coco.
I stayed for a couple of days and a lovely time in Playas del Coco staying in Coco Alegre.
The location is fantastic...really close to the beach and to the down town but still its relaxing and peaceful if you want to stay away from the party.
The rooms are big and clean with nice comfortable beds. They have private bathroom and cable tv if you want to stay in. They also have cooking facilities for when you get tired of eating rice and beans and want to cook your on food.
But what really made it for me was the kindness and availability of Luis and his wife (the owners) always making sure I had everything (like when I went to ask for salt uuupppsss) I need and was comfortably installed and giving me all the directions and advice I needed.
I would recommend Coco Alegre to all types of travellers from backpackers to families and couples.
Thanks to all Coco Alegre staff for making me feel at home

Wow, couldn’t have been happier with my stay here - Luis and his family are wonderful hosts and were remarkably accommodating during our stays at the beginning/end of a bike trip. Gives great tips too.

The property is located close to the beach, bars and restaurants and is easy to find. Check-in was easy and they even let us arrive a little before check-in time. The owner made time to get to know us and even went out of his way to drop us off at BA Dive Centre on the way to Playa Hermosa, which was lovely.
The room was a good size, with clothes rail and shelved plus a fairly new air conditioned which worked well.
Something to note about the location and nothing to do with the property or managent, only a group of rude and rowdy guests who were staying Saturday night and kept everyone, awake despite owner intervention. That's a potential hazard of Saturday night in any tourist town though.

We booked a room at Coco Alegre for 2 weeks. Luiz the owner speaks English very well. When we arrived and wanted to pay, Luiz was concerned that we had not made the right decision because most people only stay for a few days. He refused to accept payment before we reconsidered our choice of staying such a long time. After a call to his wife Marlene, Luiz moved us to a larger well-appointed room with kitchenette and private bathroom for the same price as the original booking. We did not have to think very long and confirmed that we would be staying for the 2 weeks. We were not disappointed. The place is spotless, as others have said it is very close to the beach, groceries and main street.
Natalia the hired help and Marlene the owner work hard and it shows. Although our Spanish is not great we had great conversations with Marlene. She is very sweet and likes to practise her spoken English. We could not ask for better hosts.

We stayed at this apartment during the rainy season and was stuck indoors for majority of our trip. We didn’t mind it because the apartment was great and had all the essentials including a kitchen with a fridge freezer and crockery and a separate bedroom with AC and a TV. The WiFi was very good as well. It is by no means a fancy place but has everything you would need and is a stones throw from the main strip and the beach.
What really set this place apart however are the owners. They are so lovely and helpful and always with a smile on their face which makes a real difference. the day we were leaving it was raining so hard but we were determined to walk to the station. When we came out of the apartment however, the owner was waiting in his car to give us a lift to the station which was so kind.
One thing to note is that there was no hot water but given the hot weather, this was not a big issue for us.

After staying a few nights up the hill at Hotel Chantal we had to find someplace closer (the taxi fare up and back was killing us) and cheaper (backpacking around for a few months now, we can't really afford the luxury of mid-range hotels) place to stay for the next few nights. We were referred to Luis by our taxi driver after we'd asked if he could suggest someplace to stay when travelling on a budget. You can't beat the price, the room was perfect, and the shared spaces are welcoming, cozy, and safe. Luis is very friendly and can speak English really well. He has obviously put a lot of work into this place and prides himself on being available for guests if ever they need anything. It is very close to the beach and the main strip of shops, restaurants, and pubs in town. Highly recommend and would definitely go back to stay there if ever visiting Playa Del Coco again!

This is a pleasant surprise. Clean newly renovated the rooms have kitchens that are fully equipped. The owner Luis is available at all times English speaking well mannered very nice man.This little gem is 2min walk to beach a short walk to everything. A very private quiet place. Great value.I enjoyed my stay there for 2wks and want to return as soon as possible. Great Place!

We happened upon Alegre Cabinas and met the amazing owner Luis! This place was so good that we returned for a second stay after being away for a few days. The price is right, it is clean and very close to the beach and town. Definitly an great place to stay.

Coco Alegre is the perfect place for all of you penny-pinchers out there! The owners are incredibly friendly and always on location to genuinly help you with anything you need. They truly went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and meet my needs (including doing my laundry!) The rooms are fully equipped with a useful kitchenette, cable TV, wi-fi, and comfy beds.
There is no hot water, but fear not. If you've ever been to Coco, you know that a cool shower is the best thing on earth! Coco is way too hot to even think about turning the red dial, so you'll be fine giving up the hot shower luxury. In Coco, cool showers are the way to go!
The cabinas are perfectly located at just a 3 minute jaunt to downtown and to the beach. However, unlike surrounding cabinas, this one is quiet! The windows are facing the opposite direction of the late-night party scence that, at times, boom booms until 5am. If you value your precious sleeping time, you'll value Coco Alegres thick walls. I've had to use earplugs at nearby cabinas, but not at Coco Alegre. A small, but very much appreciated bonus!
