Detailed Reviews
Overall one night at Toro Blanco felt like an authentic experience in a unique hotel grounds. The open air courtyards surrounding the pool had quirky touches (Greek sculptures wearing swimsuits) and lush tropical foliage. I will touch on things that stood out to me:
Check in: I booked online and printed receipts of my payment. At check in, despite my printed receipt that specific “bank transfer” and “transaction complete”, the reception said they couldn’t find my payment and I would have to pay again. I had to go through my bank records to pull the individual payment transaction. Turns out the hotel uses different payment vendors. Be advised.
The room: the room had a wall AC unit and floor fan which were definitely necessary. There was a kitchenette, w bathroom with toilet, sink, shower and bidet. The beds were modest but “ok”. The patio opened up to a pool view with a hammock table and chairs. If we had stayed more than 1 night I believe we’d of utilized this area more.
Complimentary breakfast buffet open 7-10am included fresh papaya, watermelon and pineapple, black beans mixed with rice, scrambled eggs with ham and bell pepper, choice of simple Latin pastries, and/or toast. The coffee was excellent.
The pool was refreshing and open, a nice place to cool off and move your body and meet other visitors. It seemed to be fairly clean, but my skin was incredibly itchy upon leaving which lead me to presume it was heavy with chlorine or other pool chemicals. To be fair I do have very sensitive skin. There is a swim up bar with speakers but according to some Canadian snowbirds we met who were in the middle of a prolonged stay, it’s never used.
Noise… we stayed a Friday night and our room was across from the downtown strip. Bass heavy dance music from the discotheque boomed until 3am. I had heard Coco Beach was a sleepy town so I did not bring earplugs. If you visit Toro Blanco I would highly recommend earplugs and requesting a room on the opposite side:
In darkness we saw figures outside our room. There were large trees, a garbage pile and a big mud puddle. After watching a bit we determined they were coatis. It was dark but we could still see them running around, climbing tees and at times quarreling.
Location was very convenient - an easy walk to the beach and downtown.
Overall we would come back, but definitely putting ear plugs on the packing list and requesting a room on the opposite side.

Thank you for posting a review, We really appreciate it! Thank you for mentioning that we can not accept credit cards over the internet. We always try to let guests know before they check in so that they can easily check their account before they leave. I am sorry we weren't able to do that for you. We are work on have the ability to take online payments but it is not possible yet. Currently we need the guest to provide the credit card at check-in to pay for the room. This is a charming hotel and really attractive to stay. Our room were large, have self-catering facilities (and a hammock) and a comfortable bed, and very functional. The nearby beach has a pleasant boardwalk and restaurants, and is quite busy, so we tended to drive off to find our swimming experiences elsewhere. The local restaurants are absolutely awful, expensive and should be avoided (hence the value of the self-catering facilities). Dining out in CR is always a challenge, so best look for places like this that let you cook for yourself. The environment at the Toro Blanco is very nice, with the rooms organised around a central pool. Very pleasant stay.

I needed a relatively inexpensive place to stay for a couple of nights and this fit the bill very well. The property is located closed to the town center and you can easily walk to the beach. It's got a nice pool and good rooms. They are comfortable and equipped with a kitchenette. They have good A/C and the wifi works fairly well (they have 2 networks because they can both be spotty). There's plenty of parking space and it's safe to drive and walk around the property. The breakfast is not bad, not a lot of choice, but good enough to start the day.

We stayed in this location for 25 days last February: close to all services: grocery store, restaurant and stores. 5 minutes on foot to get to the sea. A little noisy place some evenings due to the proximity of the bars, but for the rest nothing to say. We had excellent service from the staff.

Cozy place with a family feel to it. Nice breakfast available each morning with fruit, pastries, gallo pinto, juice and coffee. Lots of friendly interaction with other guests. We saw several beautiful birds in the tall trees around the hotel. The town of playa del coco was quaint with plenty of tourist services, and we really enjoyed the beach. Much quieter and less crowded than Tamarindo.

Excellent all around. Cleanliness great. Pool beautiful. TV, AC and wifi worked perfectly. Loved the 24 hr coffee available. Language no problem..English speaking. Attentive staff. Breakfast 7-10 daily..egg, rice beans, fresh fruit and pastries, toast. Lovely verandas only steps to pool. Would return anytime we are back to Costa Rica. A block from all the stores and restaurants. Beach right out front 1/2 block. Loved it!

We loved our stay at Toro Blanco. The location couldn't be better. It was nice to have a patio table and hammock and pool so close to the room. The owner and staff are very kind and helpful. The breakfast was good. They also provide books, games, yoga mats and beach mats. The AC worked very well, a must in January! The bed wasn't very comfortable, but other than that, we couldn't be happier.

Previous hotel in the area wasn't so great so I walked into Toro Blanco without a reservation. The owner, Amber was so nice, she had a room available, showed it and I checked in on the spot. Great location, quiet, loved seeing the geckos at night. Hope to return one day. Thank you!

While our stay was a quick one night at Toro Blanco, I can’t stay enough about how great the staff are! We needed a place to stay overnight before joining a group at a villa in Playa Ocotal. I picked Toro Blanco based on their reviews and photos of the charming hotel. However, due to my error I accidently cancelled my reservation! Amber and Gabi were gracious to help us and found us a room! And they made recommendations for restaurants that were yummy! We loved the convenience of the hotel to walk to the beach and town. I also enjoyed the wonderful breakfast that we ate on our patio overlooking the pool. The room was clean and perfect for our needs. I was only sorry we didn’t stay longer! Their generosity continued when we stopped in a few days later looking for assistance to get a taxi back to our villa. Mucho gracias!

If you are going to stay in Coco, Toro Blanco is the place to stay. Very close to everything, beach, restaurants, shops, etc. There is a place in the corner where you can rent a scooter to go exploring other places. Toro Blanco is under new administration and is being renovated now, very friendly staff, clean rooms, nice and spacious balcony with pool view. We had a very good experience here. If we go back to Coco we will definitely be staying here again.

I don't know how to do that. I booked my stay at this resort through Booking. com. I then emailed the resort several weeks ago to confirm and also asked for recommendation on transportation to the resort from the airport and to see how late the office is open.
No response from the resort. Very strange.
