Comfortably appointed rooms, nice restaurant with excellent wait staff. Food was only average but our waiter was exceptional. Breakfast was included and we opted for dinner here our first night. Accommodations were between authentic and chain hotel.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this Lodge. Family owned and well maintained. The owners are incredibly wonderful and fun. We really felt like part of the family. I highly recommend to families, couples, etc. My kids used the pool, the soccer field and...More

As a first time traveler to Costa Rica, I had seen some of these same articles so I was a bit apprehensive but I contacted the hotel and they reassured me the roads from the airport to the hotel were in good condition and this was indeed the case. The roads do tend to be somewhat narrow and a bit hilly and windy but they were not all that difficult in this region; other areas may be more difficult.
My nuvi GPS with NA maps included Costa Rica and my Verizon phone had data most of the time.
Note that Costa Rica does have some unusual accident liability laws; prepaid insurance is not valid there and is a bit expensive at the rental agency but you should strongly consider purchasing it.
