This hotel was the best! The scenery was spectacular and the area was peaceful. THe staff was so helpful and provided us anything we asked for. The rooms were so cozy and the views from the rooms were great. They have one room that is two stories made in a container truck. I would recommend that for younger people as...

Somehow we failed to hook into here. The house we had was spacious and airy it looked a little tired and that was my feeling overall. This takes into account it was the rainy season and quite cold. It felt like the family had decided to do boutique hotel but somehow fallen out of love with it. A 4x4 is...

Since the route from Tortuguero to Liberia was too long, we planned to spend a night in between. Poas Volcano was attractive so we booked the Altura Hotel expecting not more than a small lodge in the woods but we were surprised by a gorgeous boutique hotel! Every single detail was meticulously observed, decoration, landscape, the room and even the...

We stayed one night in Poas (6/13) to visit the park and LaPaz Waterfall Gardens before moving on to Arenal. This place was perfect for us -- husband, 18 year-old daughter, and me. We stayed in the studio which is the coolest, most-creative space. It was clean, offered outstanding views from the rooftop deck, and had a queen bed upstairs...

It’s slightly difficult to know what the business logic is behind Hotel Altura – not that there is anything wrong with the hotel. The very modern, stylish and comfortable rooms are set in a stand-alone building, with the reception (and very friendly and helpful receptionist Ramiro) in an adjacent wooden building. Breakfast (fresh fruit, and a freshly cooked selection of...

We drove up to Altura from the airport (~45 minutes) and were greeted by a donkey; the reception area is in a barn. It is a lovely, quiet, peaceful little place, especially considering how close it is to the airport. It is very close to Poas (10 minutes) - which we did not see due to cloudy weather. The host...

The owner of the hotel was very nice. He showed us around the property, and upgraded our room to a chalet since it was low season. We really enjoyed the beautiful views from our room. The breakfast was outstanding Tico food.

Don't let the entry trail deceive you: the place is marvelous. The room is simply gorgeous, with nice details in wood and a nice atmosphere. Altura Hotel is a very charming place near Poas. The decor is a mixture of country rustic and borderline modern. The building where 4 units are located in, has a modern feel to it and the paintings were definitely more modern. We had room #4 upper floor, view is stunning in the morning!
