If you are planning to come to Costa Rica, to San Carlos, please avoid the Hotel Magic Mountain. It's filthy, in 2 nights that I stayed there I found 3 cockroaches !!! One at the restaurant (the flying kind) during dinner, another one in the shower in my room on the same night !! The third one on the hall....This means the whole first floor is cockroach infested !! When I complained about it with the manager Juan José, I was met with an arrogant attitude, he did not showed any emphaty, he did not even apologized for the inconvenience, he only said is normal because the property is surrounded by empty fields and nature. I asked for a compensation and he offered a future courtesy night, but I don't want to stay again at a place full of cockroaches !! When I declined the offered, the hotel did not give me a compensation... I have contacted the local health authorities to open a complain against the Hotel... Again, do not stay at the Magic Mountain hotel in San Carlos.
We stayed here for 5 nights and had an excellent time even during a pandemic they exceeded our expectations. The staff was very helpful with making tour arrangements. We had three tours all with the same company (Canoe Aventure) and they were all amazing. Breakfast every morning was the perfect start to our day with excellent coffee and service. We dined twice for dinner and both meals were excellent. The room was huge and extremely clean. We also had the most amazing views of the volcano. It's a short drive to town and there are also restaurants within walking distance. The staff was very accommodating and helpful.
The rooms look out towards the volcano and panoramic views. The room I stayed in was modern with good services and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful with a wide choice of hot or cold or both. The bar insisted on plsying loud music which made conversation impossible however the happy hour more than compensated.
We were here for 3 nights. Its in a good location for the activities in Arenal. Rooms are pleasant and clean. It has a lovely pool with a great view of the volcano. If you go to the end of the property there is another jacuzzi out of the way which is lovely and quiet. The food at the pool area is really good. If you dont want to eat at the hotel there are plenty of restaurants within a few minutes safe walk. The bar upstairs was nice but very loud.
This resort style multi level hotel is located right on the highway and easy to find but is not walking distance to the town. You can take a healthy walk to a market and there is a large souvenir shop across the street about a half block as well. But there are no sidewalks on most of the walk area and it is uneven terrain. Our check in with the group was quick and cordial even serving a complimentary cocktail. Finding rooms was a little trickier as the there are separate tower buildings spread out on the property and it required walking the property some. Once in our room we found it to be very nice with two beds, a balcony which overlooked a hot tub and pool area all in lovely meticulously kept tropical settings and the Arenal Volcano in the background. The day we arrived was the best view of the volcano with just a little cloud cover on the tip top of it. The second day there was much more cloud cover. It was a lovely view. The room was very clean and also had a small desk, small refrigerator, coffeemaker and TV but no notepad or pen. There was a small working safe but it sits out in the open on a counter and there was no alarm clock. The bed had a good firmness and very comfortable but the pillows were a bit too fluffy. The floors throughout the room were marble or porcelain tile. At night you could hear some mumbling from people talking in adjoining rooms but not bad. The rooms are set back from the main road, which is only two lanes, so really no road noise that we heard. The bathroom was all in one with a nice sink and walk-in shower with a rain showerhead. There was a handicap bar by the toilet. There also wasn’t any shampoo or Kleenex supplied in the bathroom but there was conditioner and lotion. The soap tray was loose on the wall but didn’t fall off. There was no magnifying mirror as some resorts offer in a bathroom. Our balcony had two Adirondack chairs and a table with wrought iron railing and enough privacy to not see the adjoining balconies but you could go to the rail and lean a bit and talk to someone if you had companions in the adjoining rooms. This hotel had several landscaped areas, two pools and five hot tub areas convenient to the buildings. The pool our room overlooked had a swim up bar and pizza with happy hour specials. We never saw anyone using it while we were there though. The Lina restaurant is located in the front portion of the property just off the highway with parking in the front. At all our meals here the doors were open and a breeze came through and sometimes the traffic noise too but the inside noise level was mostly low. Since our tour group was staying at this resort this is the restaurant we ate all our meals at and they were all buffet style. The food was all very good with a good selection and a chef station for some other options. At breakfast they served fruit, eggs, potatoes, cereals, breads, beans, rice, hot tea, coffee, milk and they also had a made-to-order omelet station. The desserts were not real impressive for dinner. There was plenty of table seating for meals and the wait staff was attentive. Just out the door of the restaurant is a stairway that goes up to the bar. The hotel bar is located on top of the restaurant with access from the restaurant dining area as well as from a front outside door. They also have a spa at the hotel offering a variety of reasonable spa services you can make reservations for. It was a nice experience on a two day stay and all of the staff was friendly and accommodating.…
