Absolutely wonderful luxury property! The staff here is terrific and took care of us at every turn, starting on Day 1. We had significant flight delays and changes as a result, which got us to the hotel much later than we expected. We landed at Liberia airport at 8pm, and with the drive to Nayara we didn’t check in until around 11pm. The staff worked with us on making sure we had a driver (Ronald, who was terrific!), and as soon as we got to the property they helped us with our bags and drove us to our room in a golf cart, where there were sandwiches and treats waiting for us. The hospitality continued the whole trip - the staff knew our names, made recommendations for tours (thank you MariaAngel!), and were always warm and friendly. The rooms are gorgeous and clean (thank you Angelica!). The bathroom itself was huge with separate areas for my husband and me. A large two-person shower was in the middle of the bathroom, and a second outdoor shower (again, two-person) was just outside. The bed was comfortable, and there was even a sitting room area with a TV (which we never turned on). The best part was the private hot spring pool off of our back patio. There’s a table, chairs, hammock and even a bed to lounge on, plus a sizable pool we had all to ourselves. Our room (villa 10) had a great view of the Arenal volcano - just a fantastic experience. Every meal was excellent. The breakfast buffet had a nice variety, and the breakfast restaurant had a wide selection of options, too. Fruit was left for us each day, and a small sweet treat was waiting for us each night with turn-down service. We splurged on the 7-course dinner at Amor Loco one night - it was absolutely terrific. Each dish was creative, beautifully presented, and truly delicious. I won’t go into detail so I don’t spoil any surprises, but just know this is a very memorable dinner. (And our server, Robin, was a terrific host!). The grounds are stunning. You really are living in the rainforest. Trails throughout the property are well-maintained by a dedicated grounds crew. Beautiful flowers, including stunning orchids, abound. Walking around the property takes you to secluded hot springs where you can relax. The pools are beautiful with plenty of seating. We often saw sloths, iguanas, lizards, birds and other wildlife right on the grounds. If you do venture off the property (which I highly recommend - there’s so much to see and do!), the tours are fantastic. We did the hanging bridges tour and saw howler and squirrel monkeys, tons of birds, iguana, a snake, frogs and much more. Our guide, Chris, was fantastic. Lunch afterwards in the park area was a nice way to unwind after the rainforest walk and our exploring. We also went to Caño Negro, which was otherworldly. Hanzell was our tour guide and he is absolutely wonderful. He had given us a nature tour a couple days earlier on the Nayara property, and his enthusiasm and skill at spotting four sloths, toucans, iguanas and more really impressed us. We actually hoped he’d be our guide for the Caño Negro tour, and he was! His skill was on display there, too - we sat in the front of the boat with our breakfast laid out for us, and from the minute the boat started moving Hanzell was spotting wildlife. Howler, squirrel and capuchin monkeys; tons of tropical birds; long nose bats; the list goes on and no. We got out of the boat a few times to wander under trees filled with monkeys for better pictures. He was patient with all our photography, and was just a joy to be around. The third off-site tour we did was kayaking in Lake Arenal. This was a lot of fun and a nice way to see a little bit of the lake. We didn’t see much wildlife, though there were quite a few egrets and another type of bird I forget - we saw several large flocks of them. The highlight of this tour was really the kayaking itself (thanks, Kevin, for a great paddle!) and great views of the Arenal volcano. Finally, we participated in the nighttime frog walk tour the hotel offers. Mao, our guide, was worried we wouldn’t see anything because it hadn’t been raining that day. But he found us plenty! We saw all sorts of frogs, a snake, birds, and even a sloth. It was a great tour! Overall, our experience at Nayara was wonderful. We definitely splurged on this hotel and the private tours, but we were never disappointed. The property is gorgeous, the food is terrific and the staff are warm and friendly. We’re already looking at another Nayara stay in the future!…
