The friendliest hotel. During 2 weeks travelling in Costa Rica my wife and I stayed in 7 different hotels. This was by far the friendliest. It is run by Javier and his family who live on site and are always available. Reception is run by Ivannia (every hotel should have an Ivannia)who speaks excellent English. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She assisted us with the choice of some excellent local trips, restaurants and even dealt with our hire car company when they came to collect to make sure we were not charged for any extras. The hotel is not 5 star but nor are the prices you are paying. The accommodation is in small chalets. The older ones are nearer the entrance set in beautiful gardens. The newer ones are very spacious and have there own small verandas but limited views. The breakfast is cooked to order and you will be surrounded by a large variety of birds all feeding on the bird tables nearby. There is a small swimming pool which is in a very attractive setting. There is no road noise as you are surrounded by fields and trees and yet you are 5 minutes drive from downtown La Fortuna. There really is no downside to staying here. …
The best thing with Hotel Faro Arenal was the garden area: lots of beautiful, lush vegetation and plenty of birds. We saw toucans, humming birds and lots more. Also there were some howler monkeys close by. Breakfast was tasty and the Tipico Costa Rican dish was our favorite. One of the reasons for 4/5 is the cottage itself. They were a bit old, and we had some problems with flushing the toilet. Also another couple who travelled with us had a similar problem with their cottage. Anyways, the staff quickly took care of the problem. The service overall was very friendly. Another reason for 4/5 is the seating on the patio. It wasn't very comfortable. Anyways it was a good experience and a special plus for the garden!
Set in lovely surroundings we enjoyed our stay here. The host was very helpful and the staff who served breakfast could not have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. Good choice for breakfast from a menu. The owners put out fresh fruit for the birds right next to the dining area and we enjoyed watching a wonderful and beautiful array of different species feeding. Parking was available right next to our lodge which was clean with a comfortable bed and adequate bathroom with shower.
Beautiful gardens with birds everywhere! We enjoyed watching toucans munching on berries in the trees. Gracious hosts made our stay complete. Nice breakfast and great morning coffee. FYI- No shampoo or hair dryer. Would return!
We had such a great experience at la Fortuna which was only possible thanks to the great tips, recommendations and general help we received from the host couple. They always went out of their way to help us woth choosing activities etc and even gave us a ride when my girlfriend sprained her ankle. Delicious breakfast with view of the beautiful garden too. Can definitely recommend!
