My wife and daughter and I paid the extra $30 for a Smithsonian room for two nights, but had one night in a standard room (they screwed up our reservation, so be sure to double check your confirmation before going, but they were helpful in trying to resolve it). The Smithsonian is worth the extra money if you plan to...

Our first two day's on Honeymoon adventure started at Arenal Observatory Lodge. We drove in from the airport. And I would recommend this drive to anyone. The sights you see and the places you can stop at are all up to you! When you get to the road for Arenal hang on to something. The road is an old dirt...

My family and I stayed in a smithsonian room and the view was fantastic. As many stated it is a way down the mountain but the bridge isn't the only way to the rooms. There is a well lit path that is a five minute walk at the longest and wasn't a problem. Honestly if you expect people to carry...

My wife and I traveled to Costa Rica in 2010 and stayed one night at Arenal Observatory Lodge. We returned this summer and stayed a second night in this lodge to enjoy a really neat place. We had a 4WD rental which is very helpful if staying at this lodge. In 2010 Arenal Volcano still had a little activity (belching...

You obviously can't beat the view being right at the base of the volcano and the FREE morning hike was excellent but that is where the outstanding mentions end. As others have said, the restaurant food is not very good and there are no other options since La Fortuna is more than 10-15 minute drive away due to fact that...

I have been traveling Central America for a month. The reason I decided to spend the extra money to stay at La Casona (Arenal Observatory Lodge) is because they offer free breakfast (a good buffet) and a free guided hike, and there are many trails that can be explored solo. It has been the best shower I have had this...

We stayed only one night at the Arenal Observatory lodge, and I wish we would have stayed longer. The rooms were very basic, but clean. Not much water pressure in the shower but I guess that's to be expected with an eco-friendly hotel. The grounds of the hotel were amazing! In our first 10 minutes we saw a coati, howler...

Yes, as one of the reviewers said, Volcan Arenal has decided to take a break from spewing forth ash and lava for some time. But one cannot blame the Lodge for that, nor fault it for not making that obvious on their website. The circumstances with Arenal can change at a moment's notice. That said, the lack of activity will...

The Rooms are clean and Basic, The Restaurant is excellent if a little over priced. The views, hiking trails are just fantastic, there is great horse back riding too. If you want to get close to Volcano, this is the closes you can get.

My husband and I stayed two nights in a Smithsonian room at the Observatory Lodge and loved it. The room was clean, big, and the view was breath taking to say the least. The grounds are beautiful and full of wild life. From our bedroom balcony we had a view of the volcano and we saw monkeys, toucans, and humming...
