My boyfriend and I visited the Observatory Lodge Feb 3-5, 2013. We found the accomodations wonderful! Every morning we could sit up in bed, look out the sliding glass doors and see the volcano. (the only thing that would have made this view any better...More
We stayed 3 nights in a standard room. The room (#40) was clean, very nice decor a big patio and had a great view of Arenal Lake. Hummingbirds flitted in the flowers in front of the patio. It is a fairly long steep walk down...More
What this resort lacks in room luxuries it makes up for in amenities and grounds. The rooms need a serious makeover and with the amount of people that were there it is obvious that they could afford to put some profits into updates. On the...More
It looks like better location doesn't exist. Food is acceptable, rooms are good enough, but area is the best and beats all other places. You are in the pine-tree forest, with many trails started from the lodge, plus whatever you expect to find in the...More
The Observatory Lodge can almost be considered to be a tourist attraction in and of itself.Set right in front of Arenal's massive bulk, we were lucky to have an almost full view of the cone most of the time. The long, bumpy, bone shaking 25...More

The La Fortuna Waterfall is about a 30-minute drive from the lodge. If you will have a rental car, driving yourselves would be the easiest way to get there. Alternatively, a cab to the waterfall would cost around $30 each way. There are also several tour companies that offer trips to the waterfall and could pick up from the lodge if this is something you would be interested in.
We look forward to your upcoming stay and please feel free to ask any additional questions you may have.

The lodge is pretty far away from town. I think that you can to and from town by taxi. However, I'm not sure there is much reason to go to La Fortuna in the evening. The attractions of the area are nature and adventure tours, not the night life. However, if you like to be in or near a town, you should probably consider another place to stay.
