We stayed in Casa Katydid for 2 nights on both ends of our trip to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. This hotel was recommended by the lodge there. We loved this place. The service provided by Berni, Nhi, and Catherine was so warm and much appreciated. The kids loved interacting with the resident dogs and our accommodations were both...

We stayed at Pura Vida on the first and last nights of our week-long trip to Costa Rica. We were so glad we stayed there. Some of the great things about Pura Vida include the location (super-easy access to airport), the rooms ( we stayed in two gorgeous and well-equipped cabins), the wealth of pre-arrival info on-line, the service (Berni...

The garden is great and the rooms are nice. But the info is not correct... We booked over Internet and got an e-mail confirming we would get dinner in the nice restaurant which we looked forward to. When arriving we were told there was to much ashes from the volcano to eat in the restaurant. But we saw no dust...

Thank you Nillan for the review. As you know we had been having Volcano issues on the day you arrived. Turialba Volcano had started a more active period 4 days before your arrival. You expressed the need to have dinner as you arrived at our hotel and I told you personally we had huge wind gusts AND volcanic ash and...

I brought a group of women ages 35-60 for a 7 day trip to Costa Rica. I had stayed at Pura Vida Hotel on a previous trip with my family so it was an easy choice for this trip. I wanted to hit the girls with a Costa Rica "wow moment" upon arrival. It worked! We rented every casita that...

Another great stay at the Pura Vida Hotel. Just outside of Alajuela. Easy $5-6 taxi into town. However, the hotel pays for a taxi to pick you up at the airport when you arrive. It's about a 15-20min ride depending on traffic. Surrounded by beautiful tropical vegetation with views of Poas in the distance from my balcony. Berni is great...

We have been to Costa Rica 3 different years. We found Pura Vida on our first trip and were so pleased with it we have returned each time. We have used Pura Vida as our arrival and departure lodging and as a home base as we travel around the country. We have stayed in most of the rooms and very...

What truly makes this property a 5-star is the host, Bernie. His humorous email reply to my inquiry sold me immediately. You'll see what I mean if you reserve a room - sense of humor required. We arrived very late and his wife, Nhi, greeted us - very kind and welcoming (and she found us a few cold beers after...

Hi Jen, thanks so much for the great review. A great stay anywhere takes 2 sides and your family, especially the kids made it a pleasure to be your innkeepers . . . thanks for coming, Berni

Berni and the good folks at PVHotel took terrific care of us as we drove in from the airport and checked in late to the hotel. We had a terrific meal waiting for us and Berni was kind enough to upgrade us to a larger casita. His local knowledge and navigation skills are top-notch and he got us successfully launched...

Thanks Kirsten for the nice review. We travel the country all the time so we try to figure out not just the best ways around but interesting places along the route. A day of traveling should not just be a destination - it was a pleasure to have helped. Hope to see you back soon, Berni

My wife and adult daughter stayed in the Mariposa room. We stayed for just one night but it was delightful. Once you enter the hotel you really enter a whole, extremely tastefully decorated and landscaped universe. Immediately you feel tranquil. The room itself was fine for three people especially given that it had two bathrooms. Unfortunately we did not get...

Berni, Nhi and staff have created a wonderful oasis for travelers. We received a warm welcome from Catherine who provided a fun excursion to the farmers market and intro to Alajuela. Not only are they great hosts, but Berni's recommendations for preparing for our trip to Costa Rica created a memorable experience. The grounds are gorgeous, a great place to...

Thanks for the nice review. Glad you could do our dinner service, it is not available every night but we try to treat the food right when we do one and let the flavors, context and textures come through as they should. See you when you return, Berni
