I was here on business so the malfunctioning Wifi was a nuisance. The bed was Chinese and needed an extra quilt folded to make it comfortable. The room was spacious and the desk excellent I could never work out the TV

This hotel is professional, classy & plush. It is in a great district for getting around, shopping & places to eat. Rooms are well appointed, with extremely comfortable beds. The air conditioning is a bit too noisy and you can hear noise through walls. Also most rooms seem to be smoking so I could smell the odour for the first...

Not a bad hotel overall. Was cheap as we had windowless rooms, but they were clean and spacious. I was still sleeping but my colleague said the breakfast was very Chinese orientated and not worth the calories. Really well located for some nice restaurants. Would stay again for business.

I stayed here for a conference at Jia Tong University. This hotel is extremely well located for that purpose, and it is very clean and well appointed. I did have trouble finding my way out of the metro station in the right direction, however. So bring a map if you, like me, enjoy using public transit. The metro stop is...

Good location and a good tidy, clean, modern room with a comfy bed. There's a good breakfast buffet too. Staff were helpful and spoke enough English to help us. Just out of the hotel front door turn left and on the right there are some neat restaurants and coffee shops.

Great location in a quite street but just one block down to subway and department store. Nice restaurants and coffee shop just around corner. Room is clean and wide. Just the shower space is bit funny without shelter. Here definitely will become my spots in Shanghai!

I stayed here for a few days to attend a conference at Shanghai Jiao Tong University which was pretty close by (walking distance). The room was very large and clean. There's even a spacious work area which was a major plus as I had emails to reply to every evening. There is wifi access at no extra cost but speeds...

I liked his Hotel as it was not too commercial nor ordinary, I found it to be just right as it is well located within walking distance to the Oriental Shopping mall and the University. The rooms are spacious and clean. The WiFi intermittent but gets better after hours. There was always a member of staff on duty on the...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
