Considering that decent Shanghai hotels are on the expensive side, the Swan is reasonable, especially due to its convenient location less than half a block to the football stadium and spacious Lu Xun Park as well as a large modern mall. This is the second time my wife and I've stayed here basically due to its location near relatives. However,...

Modest location, 5 metro stops from the city centre, but with an interesting ( noisy ) park opposite. Reasonable reception staff, but not allowed to sit on chairs in reception area unless purchasing a drink!! Could do with more lifts. Spacious rooms, usual hard Chinese beds, bathroom clean enough and fair housekeeping. No wifi in rooms. No public restaurant or...

We stayed here while on a class trip. The hotel room have many amenities for purchase- condoms, sex oil, disposable underwear. Beware if you are on a family vacation! Carpeting was filthy and the beds were small and hard. After travelling for two weeks in China, this was the worst,

The Shanghai Swan Hotel is in a good location for visitors to Shanghai. It is located across the street and down the road a bit from the Hongkou Football Stadium and subway station. There is a McDonald's across one street and a Starbucks across another. There is an international ATM next door, and there is a really nice park/amusement park...

The hotel is very well located in Shanghai with many eateries around it Wifi does not work in the rooms and one has to come down to the lobby to get connected Breakfast is clearly meant for the Chinese and hence an issue for visiting Indians Two lifts just not enough to cater to the residents and visitors

The Swan is on the north side of Shanghai, across the street from Lu Xun Park. The hotel itself has clean rooms which are of average size. It could use another elevator (two aren't enough for this 18-story hotel), but generally, it's fine. And, for being in one of the largest cities in the world and on a busy street,...

I stayed in Swan hotel for 5 weeks. Service is very good but food was average. Situated near Hongkou football stadium and Lu Xun park. It is on one of the busiest parts of Shanghai. Only downside is not much activity be done in the hotel.

Stayed here as part of a tour. The hotel generally was a little tired but the room was excellent ie roomy, clean and quite. WiFi was not available in the room only in the lobby and the login process was painful - we got bumped off quickly. The park opposite was a dream if you want to experience local culture.

Hotel has good beds and bedding and hot showers. The location is ok for the price. The breakfasts are awful they cater more for Chinese tastes but all the food was cold. The staff did bring out additional yogurts and fried eggs for westerners. Beware of asking for a hot fried egg as they will microwave a cold one. I...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
