Stayed three nights while on a Wendy Wu tour. The rooms were very well appointed and the buffet breakfast was very good with Western and Chinese food on the buffet. The staff and bar area was very friendly

This older hotel has recently undergone a terrific face-lift and the rooms and common areas refelct good taste and quality. The service was mostly good although not set for non-Chinese travelers. But great value for location and facility.

Best hotel we stayed in in China. We were on the 11 th floor and the lift was worth the price alone. The outside lifts in the tower gave spectacular views of Shanghai. Breakfast was also very good and the selection was amazing, although once again the western breakfast was cooked but cold. Lovely restaurant overlooking the front of the...

The hotel is a bit old and the design really boring, eating opportunities are really bad. Gym is small and the staff at the pool were not very polite. No outside facilities. I was quite disappointed..

This is a clean, modern and luxurious hotel. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds. The pool is nice and good for kids with a good sized shallow end, not too busy and an attendant (?lifeguard - I wouldn't have liked to test their skills). We had quite a lot of communication difficulty despite having some local help. We paid...

Unfortunately our stay in Shanghai was accompanied by a lot of rain. However, hotel quite good, breakfast western and Chinese. Rooms clean. 42 floors. Not far to a "Family" supermarket which sold small selection of decent wine and a McDonald's and other shops. Hotel sells Movenpick ice cream which is gorgeous but they charged ¥70 which is almost £8 for...

The stay was simply fabulous. Stayed 5 days and the room was simply a pleasure to be in. The lounge bar is roomy and reasonably well stocked. Room service is not exceptional but manageable. Very helpful concierge service and reception. New property. Very clean and new, the room including excellent bathroom is simply great value for money. Definitely one of...

Stay here with work - usually spanning the weekend because its such a great location and the villa rooms are a real treat. This is a Chinese Hotel - when our China Manager is with us the service level is second to none, when we are running solo its good but noticeably less attentive. The villa rooms are a good...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
