Since 1929, the Fairmont Peace Hotel boasts a history that overshadows any other hotel in Asia. Its origins date back more than a century, serving as a glamorous playground, where every night was an extravagance. Each guestroom is an indulgent, exquisite and modern experience. Its dining venues are the most prestigious on the Bund, with magnificent views of the Bund and Pudong skyline, the European elegance defines The Cathay Room with terraces while Chinese art and legend characterise the Shanghainese cuisine of the Dragon Phoenix. The Jasmine Lounge is famous for its high tea tradition while the Jazz Bar faithfully continues a Shanghai institution: The world-famous Old Jazz Band. Consisting of six veteran musicians whose average age is 82, has drawn an audience of locals, international travelers, celebrities and heads of states, Clinton, Reagan, Obama and Trudeau to name a few. People come from all over the world for this unique experience. Not to be missed.

Love the whole experience in this well presented hotel; every detail made me to think about the olden gold ear of Shanghai. Excellent customer service and room service. Must try the old Jazz bar. Rooftop drinking at night, to see the beautiful river view.

About 6 years ago, we were on vacation in China and had a chance to walk through the Fairmont Peace Hotel. It was so beautiful and elegant; we hoped to return for a stay sometime. Now we are living in China and planned a week-long vacation with the latter part of our week in Shanghai, so we booked a stay at the Peace Hotel at long last. We arrived in the evening after spending about half a day traveling, we were tired and hungry. Upon reaching the front desk, we were told that we could go to the 9th floor to check in. I wasn't sure why we were invited to do so, but proceeded up to check in on the 9th floor. Once we arrived in our room, we quickly dropped off our things and headed back to the 9th floor as we had seen a letter in our room welcoming us to Fairmont Gold and one of the perks available was Evening Hors d'oeuvres which would be ending soon. The lounge was really a wonderful experience with unlimited drinks: soft drinks, coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages. Additionally each evening there was an assortment of lovely appetizers available. In fact that first night we were satisfied enough with the appetizers that we didn't have to go to dinner which was great after being tired from traveling that day. While we were enjoying the lounge, Mr. Stevie Liu introduced himself to us and explained that his colleague Lily Li had "gifted" us with the Gold experience at the Peace Hotel which explained why we were enjoying such royal treatment. We were so grateful for the unforgettable experience. Yue helped me research a restaurant I wanted to visit while in Shanghai and also helped us any other time we had a question. We really enjoyed the Jazz Bar and breakfast which had so many options. Staff throughout the hotel were always helpful and quick to assist. Other wonderful parts of the Farimont Gold experience include afternoon tea in the Farimont Gold Lounge, shoe shining, and garment pressing. We had the most amazing experience and hope to return for another fabulous stay the next time we are in Shanghai.

After staying in Peninsula & Waldorf Astoria Shanghai, our last hotel pick is Fairmont Peace hotel. We checked out from Waldorf around 11am and arrived in Fairmont at roughly 11:20am. My wife is Accor Plus Platinum. When we checked in, the room is still not ready. The front desk lady told us that we got upgraded to a room with a living room. So we left our luggages to the concierge and went on to meet our friends. We arrived back in the hotel late at night 11:30pm. The concierge is very helpful and he even helped us collect my wife’s delivery and put them together with our luggages. Full marks to them. When we went to collect our keys, there was only one staff at the check in counter. Luckily we’re the only other guests left. When its our turn to collect the key, i tried to ask nicely whether he can help us with upgrade to a bund view as we’ll be staying in the hotel for less than 12 hours. A simple no the room is full is also fine with me. The male staff gave alot of nonsense explanations. He said the room that we booked are two beds. Only one king size bed has bund view. I said fine, then give me any one king size bedroom. He insisted me to pay for upgrade to a one bedroom. So i declined his offer and stick to the original room assigned to me. Twin bed room with living room. He seemed clueless. He said i will only get the standard room and the benefits we get are the breakfast. Fine then, i dont want to argue with him anymore. On the way to the room, the bell boy told us that indeed we were assigned upgraded room with living room. He said maybe there is a miscommunication between us. Room wise Waldorf & Peninsula are more Luxurious than Fairmont. I would rather pay 600 more and stay in either one of them. My suggestion is to have more than one staff at the front desk for check in at all time. Have stayed in Fairmont Jakarta & Vancouver Airport and had better experience at both of them. Ps: The manager Mr Liu contacted us and promised to give us a one time upgrade for future stay. When we tried to contact him, we realized he deleted my wife’s wechat. He also did not reply my email. Maybe he left already

My wife and I decided to stay at the historic Fairmont Peace Hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary on September 16th. We normally don’t write lengthy reviews, but we had an excellent experience and wanted to share our thoughts in case you have the chance to stay at the hotel yourself. The classic elegance and beauty of the nearly 100-year-old hotel was complimented by a courteous and friendly team that made us feel welcome all during our stay. We opted for the gold level access on the 9th floor where Steven Liu and Melody made our check in and out quick and easy. My wife had arranged some activities in advance, so we had an itinerary that started with afternoon tea followed by dinner and an evening on the Bund. As we were enjoying our afternoon tea Iris came over to ask how we were enjoying our stay and offered some suggestions to make our night at the hotel more enjoyable. Iris helped us re-arrange our plans and reservations so we could make the 4pm English tour of the hotel. Iris and Ms. Zhang took us on the tour and highlighted many details including the stories behind the architecture and art deco style as well as describing the famous events that had taken place over the 90 years in and around the hotel. Iris also helped adjust our dinner reservations and then reserved a table for us in the Jazz Club. The Old Jazz Band was a unique experience with some members of the band having been together for more than 40 years at the hotel. The 9th floor lounge was quiet and well-appointed with a nice variety of drinks, teas and coffees to go along with the desserts as part of the afternoon tea. Dinner was also quite good with a nice view looking out over the river and the lights on the Bund. Breakfast had a wide variety of tasty local and western dishes to start our day. The room was well appointed with modern amenities throughout. Even though the building is nearly 100 years old everything felt up to date and well maintained. In fact, all areas of the hotel were spotless with the staff constantly cleaning everywhere we went during our stay. The attention to detail and professionalism of the staff is some of the highest we have seen in any hotel. The location is a very convenient 10-minute walk from the East Nanjing Road subway station. Step out of the hotel and there are plenty of shops and other historic buildings to see along Nanjing Road with the Bund and river walk a quick 2-minute walk from the front door of the hotel. I would highly recommend staying at the Fairmont Peace Hotel for business or pleasure the next time you are in Shanghai.
