I was a bit sad when I had to cancel my trip to Sanya due to rise in Covid-19 cases. However the funk didn't last long and I ended up back on trip advisor to find a place to enjoy a staycation. I found the Grand Hyatt and loved what I read about it. I decided to book it on the day that I wanted to go since its the same city. Check in was good. I was directed to my room on the club floors. First impressions the architecture within the hotel is awesome. The decor is also pretty great. The room was spacious and I had a lovely view from the 83rd floor...the highest bedroom I've ever stayed in. I could see both sides of the river. The bed was very comfortable, so much so that I almost missed breakfast both mornings....I didn't want to get up. I would recommend this hotel....its definitely in my top 10 places to stay.

staying in the cool looking Jin Mao Builiding was a reason for selecting a room here, for a special occasion and decided to splash out on one of the more high end rooms that are on offer. The option selected was an excellent quality room that was spacious enough, and views that were fantastic. The Shanghai Tower to the left and Pearl Tower to the right and directly facing Huangpu River, I was really pleased that the room met our expections. Pricey though. Worth the money? Not sure? Worth doing? Yes. The evening cocktails and buffet that is served between 5-7pm was really good and excellent quality food & beverages on offer. Breakfast in the same lounge was also top quality. We started off at Breakfast in the larger restaurant that is situated on the 55th. However it did not feel that good, and a bit of push and shove as well (read below) - so moved back to the lounge. Couple of things about the area. In the B1 level of the building there is a convenience store (worth mentioning as they are scarce in Liujiazui). For going out in the evening there is a bar & restaurant strip on the Bund about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. And some of those places are pretty decent. One slight criticism, which I feel I should make is that in the non-club areas of the hotel I think some staff training would not go amiss. As well as to politely inform families with small children that allowing them run amok in the restaurants and the rootop bar is not being considerate towards other people. But overall, a very decent place to stay at in an iconic building.

Hotel is well known as one of best hotel in Shanghai, and it’s still well maintained as clean and new. However, the front service is always bad especially in check in. You should prepare to wait to complete check in process for more than 30 minutes. I stayed more than 5 times recently, but it always takes more than my expectations and worse than other hotel. In hope they will improve the process next time.

Best luxury experience staycation experience over the last few months in Shanghai. Staff were over the top polite and friendly. I’ve got to hand it to John at the front desk, he helped me sort out some booking issues and made my day with his professionalism! Certainly a level up from the other five star hotels in Shanghai in terms of overall experience and attention to detail - on par with a Fairmont or Wanda stay.
