I arrived early morning after two sleepless nights on the road. The reception rejected me for the early check in. I explained my circumstances asking to check what we can do and got advised to cancel my reservation or add 400 rmb to upgrade the room. I was so tired to look for another option, so I set in the lobby with the tears in my eyes, thinking what to do. No one affected a glass of water or tried to speak. After evaluation I though that it is worthy to add the room value to keep me well rested. No one took care of the luggage or showed where the elevators are. I arrived to the room. Old, with no style or charm, tasteless. With Nescafé 3 in 1 near the teapot. With the synthetic feeling bath towels, which do not dry you, but get wet itself. With the blue Internet wire in the middle of the table, like we are still in early 2000th. With thin pillows, worse than the old pillows we have for camping. The only good thing which was there was a view. This is the reason the hotel gets score 1 and not zero. Never again. Highly not recommended. Avoid if you do not want to spoil your day like I did. Ah, by the way if you want to charge something, you can only do it at the writing table or teapot plug. No other power sources in the room, so get your power banks ready.

Dear victoria-othertribe, We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to you for your experience here. We’re sorry that we didn’t provide you with thoughtful and prompt service and room amenities didn’t meet your expectations. We prepare cotton towels and wifi in our rooms and a variety of pillows for our guests to choose from. We could offer a power strip to your room if you thought the plugs were not enough. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We look forward to welcoming you back again to replacing this very negative experience with a more positive one. Best regards, Claire Chen Guest Service Team Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai

Besides the location which is truly great, nothing else is memorable in a good way. Everything is old and odd. You don't feel in a luxury hotel, rather in a run down property which seems completely forgotten by the owners. Service is disoriented. Rooms are old. All carpets are moisty and smelly. The breakfast of very bad quality. Even the "beautiful" garden, is completely forgotten. Public gardens are 100 times better.

Dear Ruben R, First and foremost, thank you very much for choosing the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai and taking valuable time to sharing your feedback with us. It's happy to see you were impressed with our location. Our hotel is located adjacent to metro line 1, 10 and 12 and features a beautiful garden. The palms trees welcome you by the entrance. You could find cherry trees bloom in spring. You could walk along the curving paths and take a deep breath to feel the joy of the season. We strive to make our guests feel comfortable during their stay and we do apologize for the inconveniences you have experienced. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our rooms, service, cleanliness, and breakfast. We are aware about the fact that some guests find the rooms as old-fashioned. Therefore we will try to make refreshments and keep our facilities in good repair and condition to increase the guest satisfaction. We will train our staff to be more attentive and do the carpet cleaning work more carefully and frequently. We are sorry that we stop providing buffet due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope and pray to overcome it and resume providing buffet soon. Your feedback is very much appreciated and will be forwarded to the involved parties. It is reviews like yours that help us further improve ourselves. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to better serve you and to convince you of our otherwise impeccable service. Kind regards, Claire Chen Guest Service Team Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai

As we were moving to live in Shanghai, we stayed with my wife and daughter at the Okura for 4 nights in January. The hotel is very well located, with many different lines of subway very close by. The deluxe rooms are ok , clean and comfortable. They could benefit from a modernization, including more power outlets to charge all our tablets and phones. All the staff is highly professional and kind. The check in process was a bit slow and old fashioned as I had to sign more than 3 documents even though I booked online (giving all the details, incl payment) and even though I already stayed there before... At least the check out was very effective. The only main concern that should need serious attention is the taxi service. Nobody can understand how it really works : you keep standing there in the morning for ages , waiting for a taxi while some actual taxis where in the Okura parking waiting ....

While located very neatly, the house had severe shortcomings that I have hardly seen in this category before. The health club costs extra for hotel guests. They do not seem to offer daily housekeeping in this hotel (at least my room was not made up) and the concierge was unable to help me post some mail. They said i shall go to a post office, but could not direct me there either.

Dear ErwinM783, Thank you very much for choosing the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai and taking valuable time to sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry for any inconveniences we may have caused you. We charge for the health club according to different room categories. We are terribly sorry for the service provided by the house keeping and concierge didn't meet your expectation. And house keeping does offer daily cleaning service despite the "Do Not Disturb" sign and front desk offers mail service. We appreciate you bringing this up to our attention, and we will forward this to our management. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to better serve you and to convince you of our otherwise impeccable service. Kind regards, Claire Chen Guest Service Team Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai
