I was excited to be so close to the metro with a hotel in Shanghai for once when I arrived at this hotel and was thinking about becoming a regular stayer until I was rudely greeted at the front desk by the 2 receptionists. They did not accept, unlike most hotels, that 'Booking.com' was a legit means of booking a...

Stayed in the Deluxe Queen Room, honestly the dirtiest room floor ive ever seen in any hotel, those carpets need to go. Bathroom is real clean though (only plus side) for the price there are better options in Shanghai and are cheaper. Didnt go to buffet breakfast so cant say much there (6th floor). (Wouldnt go back for a second...

I stayed in this hotel for 6 weeks because I was studying in Shanghai and it was the cheapest deal. On arriving the staff were extremely un friendly, the receptionist spoke no english and was not willing to try and help me. I asked for good food in the area, they told me no. I also asked if there were...

I was staying at this hotel for a period of 6 weeks for a summer school I was attending at a nearby university. The hotel was fit for purpose location wise, near the university, not a far walk from The Bund, short taxi ride to Nanjing Road and around a 7 minute walk to the nearest Metro station (North Sichuan)....

We had a terrible staying at this place for a few days, but it was enough to make a full impression about service. Thirst of all nobody in this hotel speaks english. We had to explain by gestures, like animals. The room was quite cute but dirty. The carpet wasn't cleaned at all. Every morning since 8-9 o'clock it started...

The room was clean and quite spacious. Good value for the room quality! However, the service was terrible! It took over an hour to finish the check out procedure which was totally unacceptable! The staff were not well-trained and worked without procedure! They served whoever sounded louder! The hotel management shall see how they can improve their service! Also, trabellers...

Our group of 24 stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. We were told by our tour leader that the hotel opened for business just a few months ago. The Little Mermaid in the lobby reminded us Christian Andersen. There are around 180 rooms in the hotel. Our room is of a reasonable size, with a wall-mounted LCD TV. The...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
