We have a great first impression when we arrive the hotel. It has a great location near the bund and the doormen are professional. But everything changed when we arrive the reception, there are only two staffs there and a long line waiting to check in or check out. They do not provide a lounge or a Hilton honor elite member check in line. After waiting for like 30 minutes, they realize to open one more counter which is still not enough for the long waiting line. After another several minutes waiting, I start the check in process and have been informed that my upgraded room showing on Hilton app is a mistake, they cannot provide an upgrade for me since the room is not ready until 6 pm. And they cannot provide me other premium rooms for diamond member upgrade unless I pay an extra 100 or 200 dollars. The same long line happened when I try to check out. They told me I cannot just drop the key. I need to wait for them to finish the check out process. Overall, the hotel is clean, the equipment is a little outdated, the location is great and the staff is lack of training. There is still a lot to improve for them.

We had an extremely awful check-in experience at this hotel. The front desk staff Tony was very unprofessional and rude to us for asking for upgrades as Diamond members. As soon as he learned we were gay couple, his attitude turned to very bad.

I initially booked a 3-night stay at this so called flagship Hilton family hotel. I have to say from the time I arrived at the check in desk to an early checkout, very little met my expectation. As an experienced traveller, also a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I strongly recommend fellow travellers to carefully consider their booking options before some significant changes to the the management are made. Here are the issues: Sub-standard service from reception, no acknowledgement whilst I was waiting on a line for around 10 minutes; with subsequent excuses from receptionist; Duty managers don’t offer complimentary Riverview upgrades to diamond members as they are for extra money spenders ie: hotel policy; No senior manager on duty I could talk to as there was no directors on duty over the weekend; also both front office manager or director of rooms positions are vacant; Breakfast offerings not matching the ultra luxury status, it is in par with standard 5 -star offerings in Shanghai; My offer of talking to the GM on Monday morning was completely ignored It appears the General Manager’s had enough of managing this hotel, the passion is gone! Let the Head roll!

When you hear the name "Waldorf", you're expecting luxury, not a bath tub that is constantly draining, uncomfortable pillows, a terrible view in a "view" room and a geneal 'This place has seen better days" feeling in the room. Or a low-quality breakfast with a thoroughly disappointing lack of options. I managed to get one coffee refill the whole time, and due to the pillows, I needed the stimulant. The was, at best, Radisson Blu quality. And while the staff were responsive to requests, they overall dearth of luxury means that you should take your money elsewhere for a lower price.
