A wonderful experience, especially the evening Dining. The staff were great and the atmosphere delightful. Spoilt by rooms that were cold on arrival and should have been warmed before. No one on duty at night when food poisoning required medical attention after 5 hrs of struggle! A little more thought and this is a must place to visit. As said the staff were excellent..
I Expected old colonial and that is what we had. but the room was dark and we had to leave the electric heaters on to be comfortable. No bathrobes available which was a pain. Food was ok and service was good although some of the staff did not have a clue re. what was expected ie pouring white wine into warm glasses. when we mentioned this we were told "oh, the glasses have just been washed". it was a different experience not entirely pleasurable
We were really looking forward to this fancy afternoon tea we had booked. First of all it was really hard to come in contact with them to make a booking. They never answered what time we should arrive and I sent two emails asking. It wasn’t much of afternoon tea, scones where dry, the cream was frozen and the cakes were dry. For the price you pay you do expect Newley baked scones and cakes. Service was okay but nothing extra. I would say it’s not worth the price and it feels like they still are living on a old reputation.
Hotel dates back to old time but its just ok ok. Price is too high when you compare hotel. Rooms are named to different people who stayed in hotel. Although its different experience to stay in such a colonial style but still price is on the higher side.
The whole experience was very bad! Cakes and finger sandwiches were dry/old, tea was made of too many leafs (making a first flush darjeeling tea taste of “tannin acid” and very dark orange), the room was in decay (like the rest of the hotel) and the waiters did not explain what they served nor spoke very good English - customer service was at its lowest. We were out after just 20min. Compared to other hotels and tea cafes in the city, on top of the bad experience described above, very expensive. All in all - DON’T go! Maybe the ‘70s had been a more beneficial time to visit the hotel...
