This was our fist time visiting India, and our first hotel of the trip - and what a great find! This place had everything we could have asked for - starting with the location. Walking distance to the amazing Delhi metro - yet very isolated on a nice quiet street away from the chaos. The service and food were both exceptional. Meals on the rooftop surrounded by greenery and birds singing was wonderful - and not at all what we had expected being in the city. The owner came to greet the guests at breakfast and gave us some great tips for sightseeing. As mentioned in other reviews, the elevator does not go to the rooftop terrace, but there are options to eat elsewhere at the hotel if needed. If we ever go back we will 100% go back to this hotel. All in all the perfect start to an amazing trip!

Property's Favourite Review
Colonel's retreat is a home away from home. I highly, highly recommend staying here. The rooms and bathrooms are spotless and clean, the beds are SO comfortable, the space is decorated with some beautiful art, and you feel super safe staying as a single woman. The staff is absolutely wonderful - booking with Esther is seamless, and the security guard is a lovely man, always kind and helpful. The little touches are what make this place amazing - banana bread in the room, high tea on the terrace and everyone goes above and beyond. Special mention for the food - breakfast is a delight with the homemade jams and bread, and we had dinner here one night and easily one of my best meals in Delhi. This has become my go to place everytime I need to stay in Delhi and I can't wait to be back!

My travel companion could not join me but I felt safe in this small and quiet hotel. It’s in a good area but close to the metro. Breakfast and dinner was excellent. The staff are nice , rooms clean and welcoming. There is a lift but you do need to be able to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the roof top restaurant.

Thank you for your lovely review . In good weather - breakfast on the rooftop is lovely. There is a single flight of stairs though. However if someone doest not want to climb the stairs , we have dining areas on each floor as well.

We stayed 3 nights here and were made so welcome by Suman and her team. The breakfast and evening meals on the rooftop terrace were excellent and a lovely opportunity to meet other guests. Location was excellent with easy access to the metro station. Paula & Mike

This is not a high end hotel but that doesn’t matter because it’s a wonderful homely hotel with friendly staff , fantastic food served on the roof (especially the Biriani and the banana bread and chocolate cake served at afternoon tea). The bedrooms are a good size and were the most comfortable beds we slept in all trip! It is a little out of town but that made for peaceful evenings .

My second stay at Colonel's Retreat was great just like my first visit! The staff works diligently to assure customer satisfaction. One of the reasons is because of individuals like Victor and Naveen. They work tirelessly to make sure every customer's particular request is filled. That is because Colonel's Retreat is not a huge hotel with hundreds of guests. It is in two locations near each other. The staff makes sure the atmosphere is charming. I noticed that several couples have been coming back to Colonel's Retreat many times. I am one who will do the same. Give Colonel's Retreat a try. You too, will be writing a review like this one!

Colonels Retreat is just that a retreat in the heart of Delhi … and a rare gem … we have been traveling India for 20 years and stayed at all the 5 star hotels in Delhi and this is our absolute favorite …Arun and his wife Suman are incredibly gracious hosts and their team of staff are very well trained professional and friendly. The guesthouse is immaculate in understated elegance and presentation. The search ends here

We stayed here at the beginning of a three week tour of India. It’s a quiet residential area..The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean with a nice bathroom. The food was nothing special but perfectly good. Having said that , my husband loved the masala eggs at breakfast and spent the rest of our trip trying and failing to replicate the experience! One evening we ate at the Punjab Grill a short walk away which I recommend , the food there was excellent but twice the price of the hotel but that’s still not expensive. We particularly enjoyed the roof top garden in the afternoon to catch a bit of sun. Don’t get too excited about the advertised free high tea… it was tea and biscuits, but it was a good opportunity to chat with fellow guests.

Thank you for your lovely review . Glad you liked your stay and appreciated our simple little place. Our food is homestyle recipes - freshly made . That is what sets us apart from large commercial establishments. Tea and a variety of biscuits - i guess we must add our banana cake to this . Thanks again

This is a nice and very reasonable place to stay in Delhi and the staff are so sweet. Breakfast was lovely - fresh banana bread as well as the usual eggs and other choices - and afternoon tea was great. But be warned though - Delhi was freezing cold and foggy and the Colonel’s Retreat is not built for cold. Unfortunately, the heaters we were provided with in the rooms were not adequate (blow heaters instead of oil-filled radiators) and so we were not all that comfortable. I think foreigners would tend to find the cold more uncomfortable because we are used to central heating and therefore are not equipped with hats and scarves to wear indoors! At another time of year, this would be a fine place to stay!

We normally have a 20 day winter and we are prepared for it. This year - Janurary was the coldest January in 30 years and we were caught slightly off guard. Our regular room heater blowers- which are more than adequate normally were possibly a little short . Apologies. We have however fixed the issue and willnow have oil filled radiator heaters for all.

A nice enough place, albeit could use a decor/fittings refresh for the price point (in India). It's in a quiet surburban setting, so you'll get some peace from the madness of Delhi. Bear in mind you'll need a taxi/metro to get to most sights - but you will everywhere in a city of this size and transport is cheap. It was cold in January. Our fan heater was broken (very loose wiring), but we got a spare. Either way, still slept in my socks! Perhaps they could provide hot water bottles in the winter months. A nice welcome was given, and we enjoyed food for both breakfast and dinner which is freshly made to order and very tasty. So - it was fine/good, but not "great". As a side note if looking for something fun to do in Delhi, we did a food tour (self organised via a company we found online).
