there are not screens on the windows, however, there is a mosquito net around the bed, which works very well. There are not many bugs because the ocean breeze keeps them away. dusk and dawn are the times of day when the no see-ums come out, but only on the beach. Not an issue on the dock though.
We were there 1st week of September and the weather was perfect. August and September are the driest months. July may have more rain- remember, this is a rain forest.
The beach adjacent to the lodge is pristine and one of the most beautiful I have seen. There is a reef a short swim out with great snorkeling and the Zapatilla's are a short boat ride away- Part of the marine national park.
it's a lovely place!

Thanks for your questions. October is historically is one of the best weather months of the year - meaning the sea is calm and clear and there is usually very little or no rain. Days are hot (highs in the mid 80's). Temperatures at night are always pleasant (mid to low 70's). All of our cabins are open-air with ceiling fans and sea breezes. There are definitely bugs as our property backs up to primary rain forest. That being said, most guest don't have issues with the bugs and there are no dangerous bugs or other creatures on the entire island. Being on the beach also minimizes the bugs throughout our property. All cabins at Casa Cayuco are also equipped with bug nets with ceiling fans located inside the netting.
Casa Cayuco definitely isn't for everyone. If AC is a deal-breaker, we can recommend a few other great places in the area.
