Nestled in a stunning setting, Red Frog Beach Island Resort offers comfortable accommodations with sea views that are consistently praised for their cleanliness. However, guests have called out the resort for its environmental impact and some service inconsistencies, such as transportation woes and challenges with room allocation.
While many visitors appreciate the resort's amenities and atmosphere, others find it overpriced, pointing to problems with golf cart availability and the management's fulfillment of promises. The mix of experiences leads to varied opinions on the value provided.

Detailed Reviews
We arrived in the Bocas region, and had to find a hotel at the last moment. This place was open, so we went. We had a very nice, laid back experience.
This is an American owned resort, with full time residents, as well as tourists. It doesn't feel like the rest of the Panama, but it was a welcome refuge after the noise of Boca's town.
It was quiet and friendly. The location is amazing. They have a BEAUTIFUL private beach. Often the waves are strong, but we were lucky and were able to swim every day.
The resort is sprawled over a large area, so a golf cart is very helpful to get to the beach, the store, and the pool. The staff are really nice, and if you don't have a cart, they will come pick you up, if you can wait. (The plumber even gave us a ride in his cart).
They are right next to Red Frog Beach, so you can visit it as well (though more people). It was a $7 boat ride from Bocas
The restaurant was fine, but the menu never altered. You can walk to a few other restaurants down Red Frog beach, but it is a long hot walk.
We stayed in a "Jungle Lodge" which was clean and comfortable, though dark. We didn't get any cleaning service for the 4 days of our stay.
We never did get a golf cart, despite asking every day. They would say, "I will tell you in a hour", but never did.
The only thing I can fault, it the general wear and tear of the facilities. The place needs some serious maintenance. The place looks like it is slowly decaying. The men's bathroom at the pool was disgusting, and the women's bathroom needing some aggressive scrubbing. The pool was not fully filled.
However it was quiet and safe, and we were grateful they had room for us. We would go back again if they ensure a cart, and clean up a little better. There was a computer error, and I was charge twice for my stay. (due to trying to book online). I didn't realize it until we came home. However they quickly fixed it. I was impressed by their honesty, and the speed at which they corrected the problem.

My travel companion booked this place and it was worth the travel from Panama City -plane, van, boat) short trips so instead of getting bored, each trip brings you to a more interesting scene. The island is quiet with plenty of wildlife. A two bedroom villa with all the amenities including a pool is just what we needed to relax our nerves. This is a 600 hectare facility with a beautiful beach. There is a free golf cart service to help you go around, a grocery and several restaurants on the beach.

My husband and I stayed here a couple nights during our Panama exploration trip. This resort and the entire Bocas del Toro area is beautiful! After being picked up at the airport, we took a boat ride to the island and were greeted by the very friendly and helpful staff. The entire resort is accessible by golf cart with multiple restaurants, a beach club and a nicely stocked market. I wish we stayed longer to explore more of the island but we did go zip lining which was a lot of fun! We stayed in a villa that was recently updated and was absolutely gorgeous. Although is was high season, the resort is so nicely spread out that you didn't see a lot of other guests, and it was so serene and quiet at the villa. We will definitely be back; I'm working on booking airfare as we speak!

What ever you do if you go to Bocas del Toro please please do yourself a favor and do not waste a dollar on this place. From the moment we stepped on to the dock for the resort we knew this was not what we had excepted. The deck was weather beaten and in some level of disrepair. The only reason this place gets one star is that the reception staff and golf cart shuttle drivers were pleasant and mostly helpful. The room was without adequate clothing storage, insufficient amenities as simple as bottled water, salt and pepper. Additionally, the cooling system directly over the bed leaked water our first night. To their credit it was repaired the next day plus the room was actually serviced that day as well. NO service was provided the remaining days of our stay. Our dinner at La Rosa the first night was awful !!! Worst hamburger I have ever eaten. The place was completely empty at 7-7:30. On Red Frog Beach itself no amenities like lounge chairs nor food/beverage. There was an old broken down bar facility that looked like it hadn't been in use in years. We had to walk down the beach to Palmar Beach for food and lounge chairs (which cost $10). This was courtesy of Palmar Lodge, a neighboring property. Last, this was no budget level room rate. It was $500/night. I am embarrassed to have paid so much.

Anyone giving this 5-stars is not sharing the truth. It has the potential to be 5-stars but the place is extremely rundown and in need of major maintenance. If it cost 50% less then would be 5-stars as much better value for the money at lower cost, but its currently extremely overpriced for being so rundown. Pre-trip planning was poor as no transportation was setup for us even though we reserved and no tours were setup even though we reserved. New management started over a year ago and disappointing that there has been zero improvement. Much of the info on the website is out of date, and numerous items were always out of stock at the restaurant. The positive is Sergio and Stephanie did a great job and coordinated great tours for us. There’s lots of potential, but may need another change in management to fix.

The place is very nice but the organization leaves much to be desired....
We stayed in a very well organized villa (although there was no hairdryer) but did not provide cleaning service .... In a hotel??
The villa was far from everything and it was necessary to have an electric transport which was not available because there were not enough. There is a small bus on call but it arrives when it wants: sometimes immediately sometimes after half an hour or more...
Of the two planned restaurants one is closed and the other is very cheap.

Beautiful Villa. Loved the pool, laundry room and kitchen. Rooms were spacious and very clean.
However, the biggest issue was no golf cart during our stay and we were really far away from everything with no options. When we called for a ride with lots of notice, sometimes no one came or we waited and waited and stressed about missing our plans for the day. We asked for a golf cart but were told none were available. Aside from the absolute need for one, it would have made exploring the island much more fun for our family of five. Two high a price points to have the golf cart/transportation issue.
Also, only had bath towels in the Villa the first few days. Housekeeping came at the end of day two and we then had hand towels for the bathrooms. That was a miss.
Grocery on site was well stocked. Would have liked more restaurant options.
Lovely resort and welcoming staff, but golf cart issue needs to be addressed.

We were really excited to get here and have the Resort life for a week. But…the property is not what was expected at all. There is only one (very bad) restaurant on the property, which would be ok if you we not in a very remote place. There is only one other choice for dinner on the beach at La Palma and one other choice for lunch at Nacho Mammas on the beach. Both good places. But after a week, it’s the same food over and over. The resort itself has seen better days. The golf carts they use for guests are fairly gross and dirty and everything costs extra. Bicycle are $55 a day. Ridiculous. To go where? Boat tours are 300% more expensive there too. Go to Selina and book everything there. The resort itself to stay is super overpriced for what you receive, which is basically just a room with no real resort ammenties.

The grounds and property are beautiful, but everything else is just awful. The service, management and amenities are nonexistent. But beyond that, it feels icky, like something isn’t quite right. It feels like a high-impact, unsustainable development that never quite reached profitability and at the expense of the environment and potentially local community. It feels wrong.
Beyond the nagging feeling that something is deeply wrong, you have to take a water taxi pretty much everywhere and there is little to do on the property, so you end up feeling pretty stuck. Especially since there are not enough golf carts to go around and the hotel transportation is extremely unreliable. When we arrived, we were told to message the front desk to get a van when we wanted to go somewhere. Well we went to dinner and when we were ready to leave we messaged and messaged and messaged with no response. It is a pitch black, multi-mile walk back to the villas. We wouldn’t have minded all the walking though if we had just been told from the beginning not to expect transportation.
The villas are very dated - definitely a pre-2008 financial crash feel to the place. Wouldn’t mind that so much either if they had the necessities. We also didn’t have any cleaning for the week we were here.
All in all, would not recommend and won’t be coming back.
