Playa Tortuga Hotel and Beach Resort was a disappointing choice. Our room smelled musty and had mildew on the curtains. The in room safe was old and didn't work. The hotel itself needed to be updated and could use a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. The beach was dirty and had trash on it, and the pool water was murky. A breakfast was offered everyday, but it was only adequate. The limited staff was friendly and helpful. The view from our room was nice because we could see a beautiful sunrise. The best part of the hotel was the bar at the end of the pier which was well serviced.

Great option with beach and pool one mile from Bocas Town. Breakfast is hearty and ample. Plenty of seating options around the pool or beach. The Caribbean is not really swimmable right here, but you can walk a short distance down the road for a sweet little beach that was not at all crowded. All rooms seem to have balconies but there is no privacy from the balcony as all your neighbors can see you. There's a bar and restaurant on site if you want to chill, but service can be slow AND the drinks are weak. Food is decent. Not sure if there's room service; never saw a menu.

We had a great stay- enjoyed the pool, bar and hot showers. Staff was exceptional, kind and helpful, especially Ivetb at the front desk- we enjoyed a free upgrade upon arrival. Beach access is also available from the pool and the pool has a wonderful view.

We chose this place because it was outside of the main drag and had both a swimming pool and beach access. The swimming pool was handy because it was large, well appointed and utilized. Our kids enjoyed the break after several day long excursions. Taxis into the downtown were only $2 per person and were available on request at the front desk. We never waited more than ten minutes for one to arrive. Downtown is at most 10 minutes drive so is easily accessible and there was always one to bring us back. The hotel itself was not fancy but had everything you would need. The hotel staff was both friendly and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Excursions were offered by the front desk. They were at most $5 more than going into town and booking the same tours. However the hotel recommended tour picked you up and brought you back to the hotel . The food and drinks were okay so we mostly went downtown to eat and have drinks. Lunch options were not too bad and we regularly availed ourselves of them. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, found it to be comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommend for families.

I visited Bocas Del Toro for 8 days and stayed at Playa Tortuga the first 3 nights of my trip around the islands. First, the location is very convenient. It is not directly in Bocas Town, which is the center of restaurants/ bars/ nightlife, but is conveniently 5 minutes outside by taxi. This allows you to return to a peaceful atmosphere after a night out or day in the hustle and bustle of the town. It is only 3$ a person for a taxi ride into town and the front desk can call you a taxi within 5 minutes at any time. There is also designated times throughout the day and night which the Playa Tortuga shuttle takes you for free! It also is a close distance to Bluff Beach, Skully's Bar, Flying Pirates ATV's, and many other restaurants north of the hotel. It is placed perfectly in the middle of the town and Bluff Beach, Paki Point, etc...
The hotel was beautiful. The pool and beach during sunrise are like a postcard and the over-the-water bar/ restaurant is a wonderful spot at night to have a drink and food. Out of my entire stay in Bocas Del Toro at numerous hotels, Tortuga had the comfiest room and best shower. Always had hot water for showers and the air condition in the room is so refreshing and cool. You can set it to what ever temperature you like.
The front desk staff is there all day and all night and is very helpful with anything you need. I highly recommend this hotel and is definitely the biggest, most luxurious hotel on Isla Colon.

It's not what you see. They have been without Wi Fi for 2 days. Basic and limited breakfast. It is not restocked and there is no variety at all. They take forever. Pool towels run out at 10 in the morning. Today we arrived from an excursion and the towels had not been replaced in the rooms. A disaster and at a high price. You can't go to another hotel because they already charged you. The only good thing was the pool and the location. The beach is not a big deal. The facilities are old and lack maintenance. There was humidity in my children's room. They told us that there was no Wi Fi in the entire area and they had it 200 meters away. The menu is limited and prices are higher than on the rest of the islands. Another redeeming thing is the lady at the reception in the afternoon and evening. She tries to be cool and help.

Well, what to say . Very disappointed . The reception asked to pay even we have payed 10 days before and wouldn’t allowed us to check in until we proved we had payed .
When we finally got the proof , with the email that the hotel sent us the receipt , they made us wait until the last minute for the rooms .
For this inconvenience and the embarrassment at the front desk they told us that we could have the room at 11 am , beside 3 pm as the check in time really .
I thought was very kind of them , after all they tried to charge us twice . When 11 am came, guess what , need to wait more. , no problem .
I did ask if was possible at least one room out of the 5 we had payed to be available so we could put our stuff and go to see the city but the girl at the reception was incredible rude told us to seat and she will let us know when is ready .
I run a your company that brings at lease 40 people ever two month to the island of Bocas c for Sure not staying in this hotel again.
The staff at the restaurant was amazing , totally different . Smiling , fast and happy to help.

First of when we called for the freee shuttle from the dock, we would told no free shuttle. Cab at $2 each or shuttle to check in $10 each. After that very limited shuttle to town for no additional cost. In the morning our “breakfast include yellow wrist band” was actually $12 each for very limited, Luke warm/cold buffet. I asked about an upgrade - “should have asked for that when booking. The rooms smell like disinfectant. I went to front desk a couple of time and was told by a very direct employee, i was wrong. The room has silvered mirrors and barely marked floor tiles. The place has potential but its not living up to it. Michael lester. Room 129

Rented a junior suiite. It was ugly. Door so cracked I could see the outside. Junior Suite had no mini-frig. Dark, ugly welcome into the room. Couch and a TV. Pool half drained. Met with the Manager and a gol a 15% discount from the absolute worst experience of my life. No use of the pool. Turned away from the tiki restaurant because I didn't have a reservation and there were only two people dining.. Sent away in tears. They promote themselves as modern but the cracks in the wooden doors show daylight. My first approach to reservations was a thrreat that if I lost my key I would be charnged $300.00 so my junior suite, which didn't even have a mini-fridge nor no access to ice, kind of sucks. I moved out into a much better spot that had all of the security and necessities needed. All in all I would give this place a 1 star. It kind of ruined my vacation.

Arrived 3/26/22 had an amazing greeting by our check in hostess Kenya- if I could take her back to Montana USA I would do it in a minute. We actually gave her $100.00 because she was always available and pleasant. Otherwise dirty, rude staff. The manager especially when I tell you attitude it was appalling but interesting enough once she found out we gave Kenya a 100.00 she was overly kind but I wasn’t even interested in her fake behavior. When we would go to their restaurant the staff was lazy on their cellphone looking at you as if they were the customer - food was cold and never up to par . I don’t recommend this place to anyone.
