Sometimes a place doesn't need much to make you fall in love with it. A wonderful and lonely beach, great people, palm trees as far as the eye can see and the best individual food make all senses happy from the first to the last day. We visited the Amanwella in April in the corona bubble and felt very safe and in good hands. We were tested several times and were able to move freely without masks after negative results. The team also lives in isolation and wears masks throughout and pays great attention to safety and hygiene. Big compliments to Sri Lanka for this unique concept! Pro: _ A dream beach like in a picture book with great waves and still the possibility to swim, which is not often the case on the coast of Sri Lanka. The beach is absolutely first league. Ahead of Hawaii, ahead of Thailand, in a league with the Seychelles. Including the best beach service we have ever had. Thanks to Mahesh for the best beach-service you can imagine including playing for kids, learning about the country, escorting into metre high waves and very much more. _ Speaking of service, thanks to Nirosh for the best care you can imagine! All in all, we were thrilled with the level of service here at Amanwella! _ Great cuisine with a chef Shanta (and Dinusha and team) who has mastered all world cuisines, catered to our every need and has sensational ideas. Even though only the main restaurant was open because of Corona, we had daily variety and were happy as can be. A big thank you to the entire team in the restaurant and bar! _ Wow pool! Huge pool with the best view of the bay and excellent temperature! _ Afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes and snacks! Thanks to Viraj. _ Nice rooms, great connectivity for families with children via the terrace. _ Hotel location great to meet the locals too, villages right next to it, fishermen on the beach, locals come for a swim. _ Tuktuk service, within a very short time in front of the villa with always very friendly employees _ Room service: a big thank you here too for the beautiful flowers on the bed every night, the gifts, the filled bathtubs with candles and and and. It was great to come back to the room every evening. _ Massage _ Great bar. Thanks Viraj for gin passionfruit cocktails and yummy sunset drinks for the kids. _ Meditation by sound of the waves. Don't be disturbed, just take it as it is. Con _ Rooms: the design of the rooms is nice. However, a bit outdated. You can see that in one place or another. Nevertheless, we felt comfortable all around and were not bothered by it. _ Unfortunately, there is no gym or sports facilities. Such sports facilities would make the stay even more grandiose. _ The pools by the rooms are nice, but from our point of view they should be built in the direction of the sea and seem a bit walled up. Suggestions _ With small children, it is essential to discuss the rooms with the hotel, as the walls of the terrace are sometimes a little too low. _ Special requests such as a coffee machine in the room should be made directl, it is then no problem. _ We were very happy with the "hill room" category. (Rooms 113+114) _ At non-corona times, be sure to walk the paths in the surrounding area. Rating 9 of 10 1 = no way 2 = rather not 3 = if it's absolutely necessary 4 = you can do it, but you don't have to do it 5 = is fine, but no highlight 6 = one you can make 7 = is good 8 = beautiful hotel 9 = wonderful, do it! 10 = top, definitely do it!

Aman hotels are known as some of the best of the world, but this one was built decades ago and needs to be brought into the 21st century. Our room/ private suite building was very nice with a plunge building but was not ocean front. The suite was very nice but no TV and we were there during the oscars which would have been nice to see, but not available. There is a large swimming pool and private beach. The restaurants was nice and the food quality high as was the service. The hotel did not have Gym facilities nor TV, but did have WiFi . We could use our IPad to stream using our VPN but at this price point we expected more. Overall this property is unique and a beautiful location. My wife wanted to visit Sri Lanka specifically to see the two Aman properties. After visiting them both we did not find anything that would bring us back. We are Four Seasons people and frankly this did not measure up to the 60 Four season properties we have visited on 5 contingents. Our room was at the top of the ridge and the hotel workers apartments were behind a fence close to ours . They were loud at all hours of the nights. Not a five star experience...

Amanwella is located in a beautiful place so the guests enjoy views of nice beach and ocean. Although location is great, it was so windy on the ocean side than none of us could swim properly because of the high waves. You have to be a really good swimmer to handle such waves. It seems that high waves and wind is a common thing in this part of Sri Lanka, so I recommend to check the weather first if you plan to swim a lot in the ocean. The beach was very clean and ocean water warm and beautiful. As at any Aman property, the service and staff training was at an exemplary level. They have two restaurants: one at the beach and another one by the swimming pool and both of them serve some great food. The resorts is small though. They only have 30 villas. To me it was more like a long weekend getaway place (new highway which just opened cuts the travel distance from Colombo airport to Amanwella to 2 hours and 30 minutes). I must say, however, that the premises are quite old. The resort was built in 2004. It is well maintained and clean but, in my opinion, the room rate is quite overpriced taking into account the age of the property. Overall, we spend enjoyable 2 days thanks to the hospitality of the General Manager and his very polite personnel.

I traveled to Tangalla with my family of two daughters 17 and 14 The hotel overlooks an imaginary beach and the official Andika the butler who executes our desires and makes them real and the sound of the sea from the room hear him makes you in a state of relaxation and the great chef does not spare an effort to achieve what we desire. Delicious and was taking our notes from the hotel, making you live a memorable experience

The setting of this hotel, overlooking a wonderful beach with incredible waves, was perfect. But lots of hotels have incredible beaches, what sets the Amanwella apart are the staff. From the sensational chefs who cooked my favourite dahl for every day to the waiters who became concerned about my cough and made a special tea for me. The beach staff who made sure I had a subbed in the shade and more ginger and honey tea. They also stood and watched nervously as I braved the large surf, ready to retrieve me, if necessary. It was the attention to detail of the staff that made this an exceptional property.
