We picked this cafe/restaurant based on Loneley Planet recommendation. What disappontment! The food was mediocre and tasteless. We ordered a chicken burger and an Empire Salad - both were underwhelming. The chips were bizzarely battered in something and simply didn't taste good. They had only one kind of fresh juice, which is otherwise ubuquitous everywhere else in Sri Lanka. The...

Nice place just in front of the tooth temple. Food is good, veggie burger and old empire fish curry very nice. Lime soda a bit too acid. Only occidental tourists. Price for 2 : 2000rs. 13eur. Visa accepted. Good wifi.

It was not so bad before. But this time I found big bags of garbage in the collidor often. Sometime for two nights. It is very dirty and disgusting. Also othen heaps of laundry in the collidor too. They should keep the place clean and tidy The rooms are not too bad for the price. .

Can't fault the location which is superb. But the rooms were grimy and horrid even by backpacker standards. They say 'no stars, no frills' and they really dedicate themselves to this philosophy. Overpriced at almost any price Also very very noisy. So bad that we left early even though we had paid in advance. You have been warned! The empire...

Olde world charm from a bygone era with servants belks in room , squatters chairs and fliwer bowls on verandah. Around $US33/night for 2. Downside is that it can't b booked through trip advisor and $$ must b sent via moneygram which attracts a $10 extra fee. Loved this place. Just across from Temple of the Tooth and front room...

This place is value for money if you want a good location to hit town. Service side and the rooms are pretty average, this is one of those experiences where you really get what you pay for. No wifi but if you buy something from the cafe on the ground floor that will get you internet in your room. There's...

The Olde Empire Hotel is good value for Kandy. I have stayed here about 10 times over the last 3 years, and also tried a variety of other places in Kandy. Part of what you pay for here is the great location - overlooking Temple of the Tooth, close to everything and in the city centre. The rooms are basic,...

Went here for lunch with my family including my 9 yr old boy in his first trip to Sri Lanka. On the plus side the toast was great with mango and ginger jam. My parents had the Sri Lanka rice and curry, which didn't get any complaints. I ordered the calamari salad, which had 99% salad and 1% wet and...

This place is infested with bedbugs. At first the manager adamantly denied that there were any bedbugs, but then he conceded that they have always had a bedbug problem, and deal with it by burning incense. Do NOT stay here unless you want to bring bedbugs home with you!

Very basic, rustic room and common baths. But nevertheless: Very charming. And the location right next to Kandy Lake and The temple of Tooth simply could not be better. Strongly recommended. Very nice cafe downstairs.
