The building has now been coverted into the British Council. Things are changing fast in Jaffna. The location will open December 2013 and include a cultural centre. If a pub will be available is not confirmed yet.
The pool was green and did not look safe for swimming. Bathroom was old but clean. Beds were fine. The guys that run it speak only a little English but they are friendly and will arrange tuk tuks to take you around the area. Drinks for sale in reception is handy. For the area and the price this is an okay place to stay.
We moved here from Green Grass Hotel after spending one night. We moved because we thought Green Grass was over priced at 3600Rs. Blue Haven is similarly priced at 3500Rs, but has larger rooms, hence we changed hotel. The rooms were ok, clean enough, but the t.v. seldom worked e.g. It would be fuzzy then just a plain blue screen. I looked at the back of the t.v. and the issue was due to some dodgy hotel wiring. Anyhow, free wifi was provided which was fast and reliable. My main issue with Blue Haven was being ripped off by a front counter staff member. We paid him for the room and he gave us two, two hundred rupee notes in return. We thought this was strange as this was the first time we had seen these notes in our 8 week visit to Sri Lanka, however we just assumed they were new notes being introduced as they looked new. Yet, when we reached Colombo and tried to use these notes we were informed that they went out of circulation 5 years ago. Although it was only 400Rs, I don't like being cheated. Especially from a hotel. Dishonest.…
We stayed there for 3 nights and had marvelous time there. After the tiring journey everyday we needed a place to crush and have hot bath, this place was suitable enough for us.We were actually lost in Jaffna town at night and we called the hotel and they actually send us a guy to guide us from where we were. The staff was very help full and food was good.if i happen to travel again ill surely stay there.
We had looked at some pretty awful options around the corner and settled for this one. There are other places in Jaffna, but some of them are frankly a rip off for what they offer - this is a good choice for the price, and our room was fine - airconditioning and bathroom. Its an old hotel so the rooms and the bathroom have definitely seen better days, but staff were friendly, and there is free wifi in the public areas and we were lucky too that it reached our room. Breakfast is not included so you need to order the night before, and it is reasonably priced. There is also a swimming pool although it seems to be used mainly by young men, so women may not feel comfortable there.
