We stayed here for 6 nights and loved everything about Kalla Bongo Lake Resort. The location is just beautiful, rooms clean and comfortable with a great shower; staff are all really lovely and can't do enough to help. Breakfasts are fresh and beautifully presented. We had one evening meal here and it was truly delicious. We were the only ones in the hotel that evening and enjoyed personal service - it was amazing! I also celebrated my birthday here and had a surprise of balloons and a delicious birthday cake in the dining room at breakfast - just so special. We stayed in one of the Lagoon view rooms and it was truly magnificent to wake up to the sounds of wildlife and the stunning views. There is also a lovely pool to cool off in. There are canoes and kayaks for the use of guests at no charge - a great experience. It is very easy to get to the main part of Hikkaduwa - the staff call up a tuktuk which arrives within a few minutes and it is only a 10 min ride to the main road and beach. Highly recommended - it was really hard to leave this beautiful place. Thank you to everyone.…

We went for a lunch at this hotel. The views are spectacular and the location is very quiet, so it's a perfect spot to relax. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, specially the owner of the resort. We really enjoyed our time there and the food is delicious!
Not far from the busy beach of Hikkadua we found this peaceful and incredibly beautiful place with great food and service. The lake view rooms had a fantastic view. Our boys wanted to spend time on the beach but changed their mind once we checked in here and didnt want to go out. Melvin is a excellent host and helped us with his useful suggestions. The Chef came up with the best meal of our trip.
Absolutely spectacular property with great food and lovely rooms. The best part was the service provided. Mr Melvin the owner of the resort was such a huge help and was happy to caterto all our wishes and needs. Will definitely visit this resort again and would recommend this to anyone!
We spent a week at this hotel. We booked two rooms - my wife and myself, and for our two teenage children. The hotel is about 10 minutes (and a world) away by tuktuk from the hustle and bustle of Hikkaduwa. The tranquility of the lake allowed for created a calm and serene atmosphere. The attentiveness and friendliness of the staff cannot be faulted. The food was wonderful; we ate there five out of the seven nights in Hikkaduwa. Transport from the hotel is quickly arranged by the staff on duty. A tuk tuk ride into town is 300 slr. But when you come back, make sure you negotiate a price before the tuk tuk leaves town. We also walked down to the main road (about 5 minutes) and paid 200 slr hailing a passing tuk tuk.
We spent 4 nights here at the end of our touring holiday round Sri Lanka. We chose a lakeside view room. It was comfortable with a nice outside seating area. There are quite steep steps down to these rooms so not suitable for anyone with difficulty in with stairs. My wife and I are in our late sixties and had not problem. The bed is comfortable and they supply light eiderdowns for those that find the air conditioning a bit chilly for sleeping with just a sheet. The breakfasts were pleasant though pretty much the same each day, fruit selection, fruit juice, eggs (omelettes, fried or boiled), bread butter and jam. Most days there was a pancake with chocolate sauce or another filling. I believe that you can get a Sri Lankan breakfast if you ask the day before. The restaurant had a slightly limited range, but everything we had was good. The Kalle Bongo prawns were very good as were the other prawn dishes. They did not always have prawns, calamari or chicken burgers available, which did mean that when they had them they were really fresh. The manager was helpful getting Tuk Tuks and taxis. A Tuk Tuk is 300 Sri to Hikkaduwa, but you have to watch other drivers charging you to come back. We got charged 500 Sri one time, but the worst was 1000 Sri though admittedly it was night time and during a heavy rainstorm. We got the phone number of a driver the hotel used and phoned him first to see if was busy. This is one of the few places we stayed that would let you pay by card, which is useful as we were reaching the end of our holiday. The pool is pleasant and though in the sun did not get too warm. If you want somewhere to chill for a few days Kalla Bongo is to be recommended.…
What a great place! Beautifully designed hotel just off the lake in hikkaduwa. Lovely pool and gardens.Excellent service and delicious breakfasts. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Very cheerful service generally and excellent attention around the pool.Do visit.
My stay at Kalla Bongo was a respite that allowed me to get my Sri Lanka trip off to a great start. The Resort is about a 10 minute ride to the beach. The staff were friendly. There was a big party on my last night. It was a bit upsetting to see that they blocked out the dining room, taking away the seats with the best view of the lake. However, everything else was amazing. Clean modern room, lovely pool. Free kayaks and the beach, when needed. I really wish I had more time in Sri Lanka to return. The food was tasty and I only left the resort to go diving.
