This hotel is a real piece of history, dating from the early days of airmail service. Planes with airmail destined for Europe flew from Brazil to the Cape Verde Islands, then to St. Louis, Senegal before making their way north to Europe. The original hotel dates from 1850, but I believe the current structure is from the 1920's. It has...

I traveled to Senegal on May 1, 2016 thru May 17. It was a volunteer training trip paid by USA government agency. My previous trips w/this agency have been to Central Asia, Central America and 3 other west African nations. No place is like Saint Louis Senegal. Put this on your bucket list.

You half expect to bump into the great aviator striding through the lobby in googles and flying jacket. Great views from the dining room over the Eiffel bridge swarming with Mauritanians in their boubous. Delicious French food. Small, clean rooms decorated with local batik. Lots of memorabilia. A longish drive from anywhere, the perfect place to recharge and explore Djoudj,...

Not modern. One has to accept the charm of the place and overlook some lacks of modern conveniance. Still, it is the best located hotel in Saint-Louis and the staff are always willing and friendly. It is also the nicest place to stay when visiting the nearby Kingdom of Biffeche.

Nice decoration with planes and plane stuff everywhere. Lots of flowers. Swimming pool with wonderful view on the old bridge. Rooms are nice, but don't expect any room ihere or anywhere else n Saint Louis to be quiet on saturday night... open air music everywhere.

Hotel de la Poste is strategically located next to the bridge to the mainland, so you can watch all the traffic. The bar is the historic place for all meetings since colonial times: business, air transport, romance, politics. While the rest of the hotel is slowly falling apart, the bar remains the place for a GT.
