We (three adults and a 11 year old child) were advised by a common Moroccan friend to stay at Auberge Les Roches, as we travelled through Morocco for the first time and wanted to experience a stay in the Dunes of Merzouga. Perfect referral, as we found in Mouhou (the hotel owner) a trustworthy owner who arranged - in addition to the stay at his hotel - another night in a tented camp (ran by his brother Ibrahim), a 1/2 day 4*4 trip with one of his employees along the nearby points of interest, and an unforgettable camel trip to the highest dune around, allowing us to witness a stunning sunset. Warm yet discrete welcome including a cup of Moroccan tea, nice and tidy rooms with well-working heating & hot showers (In January it gets cold around here at night), cool diner (for a change no tajine, but a lot of chicken skewers and good french fries :-) in a rather ... cold restaurant). We didn't use the swimming-pool. Tented camp was great, with clean toilets and hot shower, amazingly good food (amongst others a truly royal chicken and vegetable tajine in the evening), songs and djembe percussion around the campfire at night. We were given really warm hot-water bottles just before going to bed, boy were they welcome in addition to the many layers of blankets to keep us warm. Ibrahim gave us 2 snowboards to sandbord in the morning, they were all but new, but really OK for what we used them for (great fun). Assou drove us to several places including a stop at a nomadic family, to an old mine (a previous french settlement), a place where you could find 100mln old fossiles and a black-berbère village. Said, who accompanied us during the camel-trip, deserves a special recommendation as he really blew our expectations: it must have taken something like 40 minutes to get to the highest dune around & there was at least an hour to go before sundown. He suggested we'd climb the dune to enjoy sundown and simply waited for us all the time, after which he brought us back to the hotel as it was getting dark. Great experience.

We stayed at Auberges Les Roches for a couple of nights and found it very comfortable. The room was enjoyable and facilities very clean. The host were very kind and welcoming. The dunes are a short walk away and there are wonderful views from the terrace. Many thanks Viktoriya & Baxter

We did not stay overnight at the hotel as we spent it in the desert camp. But we left our suitcase there and had breakfast and shower the next morning. I think this is why we may not have had a great room and had shared shower facilities. They were both very clean. And the breakfast was really good. The pool area looked very nice. It seemed like the hotel was going under renovation, but it looked very nice, and quiet with a great vue on the dunes.

Me and my wife arrived to Merzouga by overnight bus from Fes early morning. The hotel staff had nicely organized a car to pick us up at the bus station. After having a rest hotel manager Addi offered to us several possibilities about how to spend time. We decided to take camel trip in the evening to the other side of desert. The walk lasted about 2 hours. After arrival our host Ibrahim showed us our tent, and soon a traditional Berber meal - tagine - was offered to us. This was delicious. After meal a group of Berber men played drum to us and taught us some dances around the fire. Next morning after sunrise we hopped again to the camels and walked back. Everything was well organised. Our camel guides spoke good English, and we learned a lot about their life in the area of Merzouga. In the afternoon we asked to show to us the surroundings by 4x4 car, our driver took us to black desert, told about local plants and trees, we collected some fossils from the old volcano area in the desert and visited Gnaoua singers&dancers. Auberge Les Roches organized all for us very smoothly and all our specific wishes were taken into account. The food for breakfast was tasty as well, a soup was offered for the last evening before our departure. Thank you once more to all the staff and Berber guides in the desert, camp, and to our driver Said! We enjoyed also the swimming pool, located by the Auberge. It was a nice contrast to dry air and hot days in the desert.
