Me and my friend landed in Sandakan and took a taxi to May Fair. I had called up Mr. Lum and informed him couple of days in advance that my friend would stay at his place. The only no-so-good part about this place is the entrance of the hotel. It doesn't look quite good from outside, but don't judge this...

Not the Ritz-Carlton, but where else will you find the selection of free DVD's, including the famous "Gigantic Animal Movie" bin?? The owner is a classic. He told me I could only take five DVD's at a time to my room....yet when my room was 10 feet from reception I'm thinking why would I need to take more than one...

Real bargain this place really liked it, compared to other hotels in sandakan it's great. Cheap with a tv, air con , loads of movies . Great backpacker option. Nothing to do with the hotel but Sandakan is a total dump. Filthy, dirty, smelly and nowhere to eat. If you have to visit here stay at the Mayfair but sandakan...

If every hotel was run like Mr Lum's, life would be better for travellers. This is not a five star Hilton- type place but what you get is much more personal service and a chance to meet Mr Lum. Mr Lum has given a great deal of thought to what a traveller needs such as very, very clean sheets, clean...

50RM dbl room, a/c and Wifi incl. and MOVIES incl., 3 internet-computers 4 RM/h, laundry service,  We stayed as a couple for 3 nights. The a little grumpy hotel owner is a huge movie fan and has a free  VCD collection free for guests. He knows about all the buslines and their timetables as well as the opening hours of...

I've stayed in dozens of budget hotels in SE Asia and the Mayfair Hotel is one of the best, if not the best, in practical terms. It's the little things that a tourist appreciates after a few weeks of being on the road, and the Mayfair provides several of them: Reliable wi fi; a chair and desk at which to...

Mr Lum is the highlight of your stay at May Fair hotel. Don't let his casual appearance or seemingly gruff attitude put you off. He is actually a lovely man and extremely helpful and when he recommends you do or do not do something, it is advice you should take. He knows his stuff. I doubt he ever leaves the...

Stayed here for just one night and it was just what I needed - a safe place in the centre of town. Everything worked and it was a much better deal than other places nearby. The proprietor is friendly and helpful.

Ok, so it's not an amazing looking place, and there's almost a kind of clinical feel to the rooms, but it's very well priced, with really good sized, very clean and tidy rooms with good aircon. All seem to have a big TV with a DVD player and as a bunch of the other reviews mention, the DVD collection is...

Excellent hotel in terms of price & cleanliness - fresh bedsheets everyday! Xtras: Abundant hangers & even clothes lines in the bathroom! Numerous power points for charging cameras/phones/ laptops, etc. Centrally located - Gentingmas shopping mall/bus station is round the corner across the road. Walk through it, is the seafront. There, Wong Seng is a great place to eat. Tips:...
