As a contrast to the budget spot we stayed at on Tioman Island the days before, we booked a couple of nights at Japamala, also because it's member of the Relais & Chateau group that we have been to before. Already on arrival the staff was superb. We were welcomed as if we were the only guests (were not) and...

We arrived on a Friday afternoon and stayed until Monday. Even though it was the weekend, it seemed like we had the place to ourselves almost entirely. There were several other couples/families there but for the times we were in the shared spaces (food / beach) we didn't feel crowded or that there were others nearby. The rooms are each...

My husband and I went on our honeymoon to this island. It couldnt have been more perfect. It was a very private small hotel with only 13 rooms. Our room was beautiful overlooking the sea and perfect in size. The staff couldnt do enough for you and made you feel at home straight away. The only thing I would say...

Tucked away in an exclusive part of the Tioman Island, this small hotel is built carefully around nature. A place where walking to the 'tree top chalets' is similar to a canopy walk in the rain forest. You encounter birds, reptiles and small mammals who are not bothered by your intrusion in their forest homes. You swim in the crystal...

If you are a looking for a quite place far away from everything yet an all inclusive resort. Japamala is for you. We were recommended to visit Tioman however had little information about the island. Possibly this hotel is the only place which looks even better than the lovely pictures put up on the site. The rooms are complete with...

I just got back from an awesome holiday at the Japamala Resort. This place is not too much, not too little. In other words, its perfection. If you are looking for a good place to just do nothing, lie on the beach, read a book or just chill in the room, watch dvds, wake up to the sound of the...

Well... what to say..!? Simply put, It's a raw piece of heaven... We booked six nights (4 sea cliff, 2 jungle luxe) here after having a city break in KL and even having read 5+ review after review this far exceeding our wildest expectations. Bear in mind that the essence of this hotel is basically to be at one with...

Bit hesitant to write a review about Japa - don't want too many people knowing about it. In short - it's a superb place, great food and a wonderfully relaxing stay. All in all super place, we will be back for sure and remember it's not for the 5* Dubai brigade - it is a bit rustic....you are in the...

We stayed at Japamala for 2 nights as we had to trasnsfer from Bagus Place, (see seperate review). The resort is very well appointed though starting to show its age. It is the only Chateau and Relais rated resort in Malaysia I think. The 2 restauratns, one onthe end of the pier, (Italian) and the oother beside the pool, (Malaysian...

Even the flight from Singapore is a wind down.... Friendly folk meet you at the airport, a quick boat ride and straight to the sea view sarang....5 minutes later and cooling down kn your own pool, complete with waterfall. Good food, a very easily accessible reef (Nemo not here though), and nothing too hard for the staff. Wonderful!!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
JapaMala is Tioman Island’s only boutique resort, and one-of-a-kind in Malaysia. This small and exclusive resort of 13 rooms is hidden amidst 11 acres of lush tropical rainforest. A one-village-one-resort property, JapaMala has its own private and quiet beach. While some charming Malay village-style villas and chalets dot the jungle and beachfront, others nestle in the most breath-taking spots.Best described as an ‘eco-luxe’ resort, JapaMala transcends the experience of living close to nature by redefining it with a touch of luxury. Designed by natural streams, steep cliffs, towering boulders and where no trees are felled, the entire resort borrows from nature its elements to offer an exceptional sense of paradise, freedom from the real world. While serious relaxation is an elusive commodity for many, one can truly succumb to the healing effects JapaMala imparts through its holistic blend of sumptuous gourmet treats, intimacy between man and nature, unique spa experiences and truly unprecedented hospitality. Many say JapaMala is not just a place, but a state of mind. ... more   less
