This is a delightful tented camp that is a bit out of the way for those coming from Nairobi, although it is more frequented by those coming from Malindi or Mombasa for a loop into areas of wildlife. The location is superb on the Galana river, and the tents offer a great view of the river and the far shore...

It was a long drive, all the way from Amboseli to Tsavo East and the Galana River, but worth it. The new Standard Gauge Railway line for long stretches ran in parallel with the main Nairobi to Mombasa highway and in fact I passed underneath it to enter the park. From the foothills of Kilimanjaro at Amboseli to the foot...

With recent travel advisories about kenya, the tourism sector has really suffered. It is not uncommon to find that you are the only guests at a hotel at any given time. Of course this means that you get all the attention but it is also pretty sad that there are so many wonderful places in Kenya that are just lying...

My husband and I stayed at the Galdessa for 4 nights and it exceeded all expectations. It was our favourite lodge on our Safari across Kenya and with no fencing the elephants regularly wondered through the resort. The Galdessa is located on the edge of the Galana River surrounded with green vegetation... an Oasis in the desert. The luxurious tented...

Galdessa is wonderful. You are greeted with the warmth of the Kenyan smile - and a few elephants that are just passing through to get to the river. The tents are spacious and the bed was so comfortable!! The bucket shower is nice and hot when you return from a game drive. The food is excellent. If you are going...

Not the kind of place for the luxury traveller used to creature comforts, but for those who are really looking to getaway and get one with nature this place is a must see. Amazing design, blends in with teh environment. We stayed at little Galdess which gives even more privacy. Food could be improved as could the wine list but...

One of the best places I have ever been. Beautiful restaurant, excellent food and very discreet tents. Tents are well maintained, very interesting solutions in the bathroom. The camp has no fence (as other camps) so wild animals could be your guests especially by night (hypos) - but don't worry, you are guarded by locals. Close to the camp there...

I only spent one night at Galdessa unfortunately, as the lodge is just stunning! Fantastic location, right in front of the river, where you can spot hippos, crocs and just enjoy the view from your tent. There are no fences, so you can find wild animals roaming around, we even saw an elephant who enjoys walking in the lodge garden!...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located along the Galana river, in wildest and most secluded location of Tsavo East National park, this stunning camp's main focus is on relaxation and letting the wildlife come to you right in front of your tent. Galdessa sits beneath giant doum palms, 15 kilometres upstream from Lugard's Falls, with its elegant thatch-and-canvas tents, overlooking the meandering waters of the Galana River, Galdessa offers the ultimate 'bush style' safari experience. Game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris along the Galana River and sand rivers. Sundowners, bush breakfast. The camp's direct area is a home to over 51 black rhino. Tsavo East National Park is a Wilderness area and the game can be shy but it offers great bio-diversity. Uncommon species seen there include lesser kudu, gerenuk, fringed eared oryx, hirola and Peter's gazelle. The area is renowned for elephants particularly during the dry season. Tsavo a bird watcher paradise being particularly rich in birdlife. SUGGESTED STAY TO REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT WE CAN OFFER 3 NIGHTS. ... more   less
