My friend booked this guest house in Sangkhlaburi. We rented a scooter from the guest house. It has a scenic location just on the bank of a big river. There are boats leaving from there to go to the lost temples. It had a bar, very nice corner to sit. The toilet and bathroom was shared. I had difficulty to use the toilet. It was elevated from the ground and no toilet seat. (You can google it, old thai toilet) Well it was not easy to use unless you are a gymnast I think. But it was clean. The room was very comfortable. I had a balcony with the view of the river. Don't try to bargain over the price, it's already good and not expensive. I enjoyed the comfort of my stay.

We just came for the restaurant, and the lady didn't even smile - very un-Thai behaviour. The food was nothing special, the fruit shakes were good. The guesthouse has a great location overlooking the lake, renting canoes etc. And, I guess you can go for a swim from the pier.

Well the only way to book this place is to phone ahead, it all worked out. Large number of rooms spread either side of a stone staircase. We were lucky enough to have room 7 which, as others have said has the best views in the house. Oooo what views over this enormous reservoir. There are more basic rooms but this one has air con and just £25 a night. Good choice of breakfast, excellent lunch / evening menu and endless supplies of beer if that’s your thing. This is slightly out of town 5/10 mins walk but who cares. We arrived on the eve of Loy Kathrong, when there are local (and very noisy) boat races on the lake. Good fun watching though and the locals are very vocal about it all. The manager is kindness personified, even giving us offerings to float for Loy Kathrong and enabling us to join the celebrations with his family. He can arrange anything including a boat trip from the pier, just ask away. We stayed two nights and second night the manager hosted a meal for a crowd of children and some adults..... we quickly gathered something special was going on and enquired. It turned out the children were all from a VERY special local project which provides education and skills for the local Mon children, orphans and those that cannot get into state schools (most Mon children can’t as they’re stateless) Children of the Forest, have had innumerable successes with the children they have worked with, including three going to university. You can visit and donate. Do it

i book a room facing the lake, morning sunlight was the best. My favourite drink was watermelon juice. There was plenty of activities to do. I did canoeing and rafting. Room price was relatively cheap compare to their excellent services. Totally worth it!

Please don't give these scammers your money. We stayed in one of the charming stone cabins, but were kept awake until well after 430am by people a few doors down who were having the mother of all drunken parties, complete with screaming, yelling, making strange animal calls (yes, really!), and smashing bottles. At one point I couldn't bear it anymore and got up to look for some staff to ask them for help in asking the people to be quiet, but I looked all over and couldn't find anyone. The front desk was dark and abandoned, and I even looked around to see if maybe there was a place were a night clerk might stay, but no luck. In the morning when we checked out, groggy from having only gotten about 2 hrs uninterrupted sleep after the partiers finally ran out of beer, I explained the situation to the manager, offered to play him a sound recording I'd made from inside our room of how loud we could hear all the yelling from outside, and asked for a refund. He refused, and said it was our fault for not complaining earlier. I said, "I tried, I looked for some staff when it was happening, but there wasn't anybody around." He said, "Yes, because I go home at 9pm. If you have a problem, you have to let me know before that time." I explained that this was impossible because the problem hadn't started until AFTER he left. Then he tried telling me there was a security guard patrolling at night, which I was skeptical about, because a) I was looking around for someone to help me for more than 10 minutes, and b) if there was a security guy, why did he allow this to go on all night? But I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, and said, "ok, so ask the security guy how loud these people were" and he said he couldn't because the security guy had gone home already. I was so confused by this point about why he was being so rude and saying it was somehow our fault, so I asked him, "Is this normal, that people make so much noise at night? It's not against the rules? You don't think it's a problem that there's no staff here after 9pm in case someone has a problem?" And he said basically there was nothing he could do, we'd used the room already, we'd liked it just fine at 9pm, and anyways the noisy guests had checked out already, so what did I expect him to do? I said I expected a refund and that I didn't think it counted as using the room if we couldn't sleep in it. He said nope, no refund, and by this time I was in danger of losing my temper, so I just said it was a bad way to do business, and left. So. Be warned. If you're lucky and everything runs smooth (or if you love staying up til dawn making all the possible noise you're capable of making), you will really enjoy your stay. If you like getting more than 2 hrs sleep, or think that a business should accept even a smidgen of accountability for providing a woefully unsatisfactory service, please spend your money elsewhere.
