We looked at pretty much all the resorts in Tanote Bay to find an affordable room to stay for a week. The TFR had the cheapest available room (650B) with the best view and a hammok on the balcony, but to be honest the room itself wasn't too inviting. It was darker than other rooms we had looked at and...

I picked Family Tanote Bungalows after reading the short review in a "lonely planet" Asia travel book. I'm really glad I did. The Bungalows are run by a family and they were super friendly. The hotel is situated right on the side of a beautiful hill, all the bungalows have porches with hammocks and face the sea. There is a...

Pros: absolutely breathtaking view from bungalow porches. Each bungalow has a personal porch and balcony looking over Tanote bay. Room are nice and relatively clean. A few small bugs but what can you do. Personal bathrooms, 800bht hot shower water, 600bht only cold. We stayed in the 800bht room and it was very nice and spacious.  Cons: horrible, horrible unprofessional...

We switched to this resort after seeing their location on the hillside looking over Tanote Bay. We found this bay to be ideal; quiet and away from the bustling Sairee Beach, emphasizing chill island life and a view over bars and restaurants. Our hotel room was incredible, about 100 feet up from sealevel and looking over the crystal clear waters....

Our stay at Family Tanote would've been bearable if we didn't have to deal with the staff. The receptionist woman was belligerent, argumentative, and unhelpful. Every interaction wih her ended up with us being frustrated and thoroughly annoyed. First, she tried to put us in a room with no curtains on any of the three windows. This is not a...

We are a young couple and were in Koh tao for a week. The place is beautiful, the bay is the best seen in the island and the location of the bungalows is amazing, just in front of the sea, right on the beach. The bungalow is simple, nothing special, with a nice balcony and a hammock. Inside is essential,...

We stayed at Tanote Bay Resort for several days because we booked a CMAS 1* diving course at Calypso Diving center. Family Tanote Bay Resort is located in Tanote Bay on the east coast of Koh Tao, besides snokling and diving there is not much to do in that bay. As we did our diving course, the bay was a...

Hotel is located way outside of town. It cost 600baht to get too and from town. They offer a shuttle service which doesn't leave until 11a. Also we stayed on the 4th floor without elevators which we were un aware of when booking. Wifi didn't work in the rooms, only in the pool areas and the lobby. The beds were...

The location of this family run resort is gorgeous. We stayed here in 2013 and now again to go diving again with Calypso Diving...just 20meters across the beautiful beach. Too my opinion one of the best diving schools at Koh Tao. All very relaxed atmosphere. Staff is kind, bungalows are beautiful from the outside and all well maintained. All gorgeous...

“All the bungalows are different. Theres lots of steps so if you dont want to hike up alot of steps, you can always ask for a room close to the beach. There is bungalows right on the beach. I was halfway up the hill and I had a total knee replacement. When I made it to my sundeck, it was always worth it. I didnt need AC. I had a great fan and the seabreeze blew right through my room. The bungalows are nice. It is Thailand. I recommend reading a short blurb or two on Thai and Burmese people, there customs. There very easy going people. Unfortunately for them that work in the tourist business, they are confronted with disgruntled, complaining, loud people constantly. We all could learn something from there "take it easy" style of life.”

“Make sure to look at the room before you pick it -- we had room 24, which was probably the best on the whole damn island as far as views go. Some of the rooms were blocked by trees, however.”

“Bungalows at beach are mainly for 4p..smaller ones higher up against the hill. Be very specific when you call them. You could end up in bungalow high on the hill, with many stairs. Prices can hardly be negotiated, You need to pay in advance, so make sure you have enough cash with you since there is nothing nearby. Email is unreliable and not an option to communicate.”
