This is a old palace converted into hotel, rooms are spacious and washrooms are humongous. I got a good deal via Make My Trip for the room which was featuring for INR 5500 on website for less than half the price, frankly speaking it does not look like INR 5500 room. Hotel has a restaurant which serves average food, but... More

We reached at the palace in the evening. The first impression of the palace was not so good as it is a very old palace and less maintained from the outside. But once we entered the palace I liked the hospitality and rooms. The palace is clean from inside and the rooms are nice and comfortable. The only fuss is... More

Generally old palaces get converted in fancy expensive hotels; not so with the wonderful Mahal Khas Palace which is getting renovated bit by bit. Situated in the middle of the old city (repleted with a moat and fort walls), Mahal Khas is far from the bird sanctuary but had loads of atmosphere. The rooms are clean and above-average (the toilet... More

Was a bit sceptical when we booked this place online. Our drive to Bharatpur on the Yamuna Expressway was excellent and enjoyed the beautiful winter morning drive with green and yellow coloured mustard field on the sides. It took us a while to find the palace. On reaching Bharatpur one should ask for the way to Lohagarh Fort and then... More

We were two couples who went to stay there for a day. Initially we were not quite impressed with the property, owing to the not so attractive entrance, but as time passed we fell in love with the old charm of this palace. The room service is not great. But I still rate this place good because food was tasty... More

Worst Service, Skeletal Staff (the receptionist is the chef!!), No reception in the TV (reason given: monkey has broken the cable). Delayed Food, Bad Food, Did not get what I ordered. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bharatpur – The “Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan”, and Lohagarh Fort were built by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 A.D. The Lohagarh Fort, true to its name stood solidly in the face of many British attacks, frosted them to ends. It faced the British onslaught four times and after a long siege they had to withdraw. During the British empire, the state covered an area of 5,123 sq. km. Its rulers enjoyed a salute of 17 guns. The state acceded unto the domination of India 1947A.D. Mahalkhas Palace is situated in the middle of Lohagarh Fort. The palace is a fine blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture built in 1826 by Maharaja Balwant Singh who was a successor to great Jat ruler Maharaja Suraj mal. It had been residential palace of Bharatpur rulers up to 1965. Now it has been converted into a heritage hotel. It has a huge courtyards, beautiful wall paintings and marvelous carvings on sand stone. In its fine dining restaurant, we do serve Indian, continental and Chinese food. All 12 rooms are en suit with ornate pierced stone windows (Jharokas) and have all new amenities. The stay at Mahal Khas Palace will take you in a royal era. ... more   less
