About

Poerani is a charming property located on the island of Moorea, French Polynesia, near the beautiful Temae golf and the famous Cook's Bay, on the lagoon, on a lush garden of nearly 1500 m2, fully fenced, without vis-a-vis. Its 32 meters of private beach, without rocks or coral, provides direct access to the lagoon for refreshing sports or swimming, snorkeling trips, sea kayaking activities ... With its tiled roofs of red cedar, its decks in exotic woods, its ventilated spaces, its carved tikis, Poerani ("celestial pearl") claims its deep Polynesian roots and offers a modular accommodation combining Polynesian tradition and contemporary comfort, ideal for a serene and relaxing stay in couple, family or friends. Poerani Moorea offers three typically polynesian bungalow Suites scattered in the garden for 1 to 4 people. Each suite is located in a "Polynesian fare" (cottage): - the Mahana Suite (48 m2, sleeps 4), opening on one side to a large and covered deck facing the lagoon and on the other to the garden, including 2 bedrooms, mosquito nets, one bathroom with walk-in shower and WC, television, a kitchen area, - the Mata'i Suite (42 m2, sleeps 4), opening on a large and covered deck facing the garden, including a master bedroom with queen size bed, mosquito net, bathroom with walk-in shower and WC, a living room with sofa bed for 2, television and kitchen area, - the 'Ava'e Suite (34 m2, sleeps 2), opening to a terrace facing the garden, including a bedroom with queen size bed, mosquito net and TV, a bathroom with walk-in shower and toilet, kitchen area. Staying in Poerani means first discovering the wonderful treasures of the Moorea lagoon, directly accessible from the beach front. For this, do not hesitate to use the sea kayaks and snorkeling kits at your disposal. But a simple swim, that's possible too! Ideal for shopping in Maharepa, discovery of Cook and Opunohu bays or sumptuous Temae and Mareto beaches. Services + (paid, on request): Bed linen and towels are changed 1 time per week. If you prefer a higher frequency, you can use the "laundry" service of Poerani. Poerani Moorea is located only 15 minutes from Vaiare (the terminal for ferries to Papeete) and 5 minutes from the Moorea airport. At 2 minute walk you will find a foodmarket, a pizzeria, a food truck. 10 mins walk or 5 minute bike and you'll be in Maharepa, Moorea's main commercial area, with snacks, restaurants, banks, post office, pharmacy, pearl and souvenir shops ...

We stayed 3 nights at Poerani. Eric allowed us to check in *very* early the first day, helped us get bikes Day 1, a taxi Day 2, and a car Day 3. He arranged our transportation to and from the ferry (the emails said he would pay for the transfer service but it turns out he only planned to pay for one way). We spent most of our time exploring Moorea and not a ton of time in our bungalow, but the waterfront area was quaint, our kitchen was equipped for the breakfasts we made, we didn't need the mosquito netting provided, and our shower had hot water. To be best prepared, note the closer grocery store has fewer hours and not many walkable restaurants are open. You'll definitely need some sort of wheels or lots of cash for taxis to get around. Note that there isn't really a beach here; there is easy entry for swimming and kayaking but the lawn chairs are on grass above the water.

We stayed 6 nights at Poerani Moorea. From our welcoming introduction to our fond farewells, complete with leis, the experience was warm and comfortable. Emeline was a treasure, always quickly available online or on the grounds to help arrange tours and tickets to the many attractions on Moorea. We were very happy with the activities she arranged: lagoon tour (Moorea Miti), whale watching (and snorkeling! Pacifik Attitude), 4WD tour (Francky Frank), and Tiki Village dance show. All offered pickups right at the gate of Poerani. With Emeline's services, guests at Poerani have the more than the equivalent of a resort concierge at hand. The Mahana Suite has a nice lagoon-view veranda with dining table and sofa, an open-air, well-equipped kitchen. and two air-conditioned bedrooms with a WC between them and shower + sink in the smaller bedroom. The beds (queen + full) were relatively comfortable and have mosquito nets just in case. The back bedroom has its own sliding glass door onto a garden patio (with clothesline). The bungalows are located within 5 minutes walk from a supermarket, 2 "snacks" (pizza and salads/crepes, and restaurant "Mahogany". With a rental car, you are within 45 minutes of everything on this small island. Despite a lack of laundry facilities for non-villa guests, we found the Mahana Suite and Poerani grounds to be very comfortable for an extended stay. The Poerani shoreline is not large, but has an expansive view. Just sitting on the steps into the water, I observed a young moray eel and many small mullet. The water is probably only knee-deep with a sandy bottom out for about 50 m off the shore, where it drops into a deep channel. This situation enabled the Moorea Miti Tour to drop us off right on the Poerani beach. Beyond the channel, the lagoon has many, many coral heads at shallow depth, perfect to explore with the provided kayaks. Paddling out in the early morning, we saw a couple of rays and small black-tip sharks in this part of the lagoon. Do wear strong reef shoes everywhere in FP due to stonefish (none seen here). You will occasionally see "rafts" of brown algae in the lagoon which detach from the reef during storms. We observed such a raft is close to Poerani one day, but it moved away the next day. This is most likely related to ongoing bleaching of coral and is seen throughout FP. Kayaking on the lagoon on a calm day gives you the unearthly sensation of floating atop an aquarium. Don't miss it! On the downside, the number of loose and/or stray dogs on all the FP islands we saw, particularly in the area of Moorea around Poerani, is very sad and unfortunate. It would be great for US veterinarians to figure out some way to trade some vacation expenses for free spay/neuter services for residents in the area! The ring road has plenty of traffic, so there is some road noise, especially noticeable in the early morning, plus the usual FP rooster concerts in the wee hours. We could continue to hear such things far out in the lagoon, so they are auditory "features" of Moorea which most likely cannot be avoided by staying in a resort. Walking and biking along the road was a bit risky due to the narrow shoulders. Although it was the dry season, we did note a few mosquitoes on the property. Bring DEET. The geckos try their best to consume them all, and their chuckling is much in evidence each night. Despite these concerns, we very much enjoyed our stay at Poerani.

Small set of bungalows right on the water. Nice garden and such easy access to snorkeling. They offer free use of bicycles and kayaks. Staying in the bungalows is like living--a real experience and not a superficial or crowded hotel or resort stay. Everything was perfect--for us--even when it wasn't. A little rain dripping here and there on the veranda just was part of the ambiance. The Poerani Moorea is close to a market as well as plenty of eating places. The owners and staff are not intrusive but they were always helpful and came around if we needed something. Highly recommended for those who want an authentic stay.

this is a small property located on the edge of the main town on the island of moorea about a 10 minute drive from the ferry. it is close to restaurants, a grocery store and banks. it is a small property with multiple bungalows - if any group is noisy all will hear tho it was quiet at night. we kept our kitchen clean but still had ants and rodents. do not keep food in your bedroom. the beach is very shallow and it is a bit of a swim to snorkel. water toys including kayaks, snorkelling gear was provided. stephane was very attentive and honest. extra time requested ,etc . is expensive. the place was clean and the ac was good and quiet. there was good wifi. the room design was a little strange-the shower and sink are with one bedroom and the toilet is located between the 2 bedrooms in its' own section. umbrellas and other niceties are provided.

Dear Neal, Thank you for your appreciation, which however deserves some clarification from us: We are sorry that you saw a rodent near your bungalow. Unfortunately, this can happen in tropical areas, especially after a period of heavy rain. We set traps as soon as you let us know and have not had any other reports since. Regarding "extra-time": when possible, we are delighted to offer early check-in (9am instead of 15h) and late check out (18h instead of 11h). We charge them only 43 euros. To compare to the entire night that most hotels charge when the check-out time is exceeded ... With our best memories, Stéphane & Franck

If the bustling American resort, replete with sim-up pool bar and loud children is not your thing, Poerani Moorea may be. We rented the only villa (pictured above) for a week. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is a delight, steps from the ocean, with Kayaks and bikes at your disposal. The location is superb: steps from the only gym on the island, 2 grocery stores, the post office, fun shopping and a great Parisian cafe for espresso, pastries, gelato and eggs. The Polynesian ocean? C’est Tout! Our hosts, Franck and Stephane were present and attentive but not intrusive.
