when we arrived at this wonderful hacienda we quickly realized that this seems to be a rather popular place also for big tourist groups. Contrary to most hotels we have stayed during our 3 weeks visit to Ecuador (in January 2015) this place was full. Nevertheless we have enjoyed our spacious and comfortable room (Junior suite) and had been very... More

This is a difficult review to write; I have waited several months from the time I stayed here to write the review. I wanted to make sure the review is fair, but in summary, I had a horrible stay here. It is a charming Hacienda with traditional buildings and surroundings but my positive experience ended there. It could be a... More

Close proximity to Chimborazo volcano and the famous Devil Nose train ride, Hacienda Abraspungo invites you to pleasure and relaxation. Breakfast buffet included. Intimate bar; beautiful grounds. Only 38 guest rooms with complimentary high-speed Internet access. What a location to begin either trekking or volcano climbing.

Stayed two nights in July 2014. Lovely setting on the outskirts of Riobamba a short cab ride from Downtown, the train station or a shopping mall. We were moved from our initial room due to water issues but did not receive the fireplace we were promised in our second, though nice-enough, room. Meals in the restaurant were a little on... More

I stayed there with my two boys (aged 5 yr and 18 mo) during a trip to Ecuador. Both boys had a blast, exploring outside (cool playground), visiting the animals (my younger one chased some hens for hours) and picking little rocks and sticks. The rooms are well set up, clean, pretty and warm. Food was excellent, and had enough... More

Simply awesome! Lovely grounds, beautifully landscaped and filled with birds. Our room was incredible...spacious, king size bed, beautifully furnished, overlooking the twin volcanos and a lovely courtyard, a bathroom the size of most bedrooms, with a large walk in shower and separate bath tub...omg! Dinner in the restaurant was a tasty treat and we devoured everything...grilled trout, pasta and chef... More

We stayed for one night on our way north to Quito. It is a charming Hacienda with traditional buildings and surroundings. The room was of a good size, but the waste plumbing could do with some attention. The restaurant was busy and though the food service was good and the fare adequate, the wine chosen was not available (all sauvignon... More

We just stopped here for one night before catching the train as many others appear to do. The hotel is on the outskirts of Riobamba so you are likely to eat here as well. The layout is that of an old Spanish hacienda with lots of nooks and crannies decorated with old saddles and other trimmings. Lovely garden area with... More

We loved this place! We were on a private tour with Metropolitan Touring and they excelled themselves in their choice of this hacienda on the outskirts of Riobamba. Our room was huge, with big bay windows looking out over the gardens, there was a lounge area by the windows with a warm wood fire. The bed was king size, the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The wonderful Hacienda Abraspungo is located at 2,754 metres above sea level and is surrounded by the magnificence of the Ecuadorian Andes. It is named after a glacial valley which is situated between the Chimborazo Volcano and Carihuairazo, in the exact centre of Ecuador.Hacienda Abraspungo, with its comfortable, charming and high level installations offers a personalized service in the ideal spot to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Andes. The architectural style found here offers the best of traditional colonial design often used in the ancestral mansions and haciendas of Ecuador. The Hacienda is adorned with old photographs and illustrations of Andean landscapes, which today constitutes as a testimony to eras gone by. The antiques on display in the social areas give a colonial flavour as well as a feel for the pre-Colombian cultures of the region. The visitor can truly appreciate the richness of the natural resources offered by the Chimborazo Province and Ecuador in general. Each room takes its name from one of the mountains of Ecuador. That mountain is shown in the photographs displayed within the interior design in the room. The owner’s commitment is to create a working environment which allows sustainable growth, enhancing positive image and generating an overall feeling of trust between the working force, the clients, and the community, aiming to become a point of reference within the tourist industry of Ecuador and the city of Riobamba. ... more   less
