I stayed three nights with my family in the hotel and the experience was unique. The hotel is a Bai ethnic minority house built by a wealthy family 70 years ago. The architecture is beautiful and different from any other types of houses in China. The founder of this hotel renovated the house and protected the heritage. Although the house...

Thank you so much for articulating our mission so concisely. We are trying to develop a "different type of luxury," one that delivers an elegant and timeless home away from home for our guests (which is so effortlessly shaped by our grand historic compounds) and supported by unique programming that combines the best of our community with the intellectual curiosity...

Set in a remodeled Bai style house that once belonged to a wealthy business man circa 1948, it has picturesque courtyards and nice views of rice fields and mountains near Dali. Be prepared for a rather hard bed, difficult lighting for the ladies to apply makeup and no phone in room. Because of the thin walls and sounds traveling there's...

Unfortunately, as hard as we try, we cannot please all the guests. One person's criticism- not enough luxury- is offset by another's complaint about too many comforts and not enough 'authenticity'. While we passionately try to make everyone happy, we have learned that we can only be straightforward in telling guests what we do and let them make the decision...

I lived in Yunnan Province for one year before coming in the Linden Centre with my parents. It was the most comfortable, well-run hotel I found in China. It was also one of the least Chinese. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Staff are friendly and English-speaking. There are efficient services including laundry and transportation. This is appropriate given the...

We are happy to hear that you appreciated our service. Given that nearly 90% of the staff come from the local village, we believe that this is one major aspect in making our hotel authentic. The reality is that authenticity now lies in China's vibrant cities and parent-less villages. It can be found in the boutiques of Dali and the...

Near the beautiful old town of Dali, this wonderfully restored courtyard hotel is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the cities. Rooms were simple, but clean and peaceful. Breakfast was simple, but of good quality and everything was freshly prepared. The public areas are gorgeous and there is a wonderful roof terrace with views across the paddy...

Thank you for your kind remarks. They capture the true essence of the experience we hope to offer. We are promoting the subtle beauty of timeless traditions and not reconstructed tourist traps. Guests who want a serene experience among friendly villagers and within an architectural masterpiece will love the Centre. Guests who want over-the-top luxury housed in soulless new structures...

My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay at the Linden Centre! The hotel is actually a beautifully renovated historic home. Great care has been taken to preserve the architecture of the original home, but you still are able to enjoy a comfortable bed, air conditioning and a western style bathroom. What stands out most about our stay at the...

Lovely, small hotel housed in a historic home. The service and staff are excellent. The market tour is worth doing - it's two hours long and fantastic. Robert is an excellent calligraphy teacher, and the tea ceremony with Chris was very enjoyable. The bartender, a woman from Burma, was lovely. The rooms were spacious and clean. The village of Xizhou...

Discovering Xizhou was made even more delightful by the two nights we stayed at the Linden Centre. We were captivated by the beauty of its location, the wonderful restoration of the authentic Bai courtyard style architecture and the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. I was sadly only able to stay one night at the Linden Centre but it is a gorgeous place. An old traditional style family home that has been lovingly restored by the current owner. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. There is a lovely bar, library, games room etc which give the hotel a wonderful sense of community...

We always missed this one because we missed the plane to Dali. But a flight to Kunming and a six hours bustrip was worth the wile! The good service started with changing the pick-up from airport at 6am to pick-up from the bus station at 8 Pm. As the kitchen was closed the staff made sure that we stopped in...
