My experience staying at the Linden Centre was nothing less than perfect. Everyone in the staff made me feel welcomed and at home, and it seemed as if I was a part of a comforting community. After receiving incredible service, I will definitely be returning soon.

This is an absolutely perfect first stop (or only stop!) for an American/western traveler visiting China. Not only are the rooms incredibly comfortable and outfitted with every modern convenience, but guests are surrounded by the beauty, majesty and mystery of Old China everywhere they turn. We visited with a group of 14, including 9 high school and college students and...

Our goal is always to make people fall in love with China. This happened to my wife and me some thirty years ago, and the Centre is the result of our feelings for China. We are so happy that our 'baby' charmed you. You and your team, too, enchanted our village with your songs, dances and smiles. Thank you!

When planning my visit to China I was determined to get beyond the populated cities of Beijing and Shanghai to get up close to the old world charm and history. The Linden Centre is a restored mansion that's located in the protected heritage village of Xizhou only 40 minutes from the Dali Airport. The rooms are furnished with modern amenities...

Thank you for participating in our annual photography workshop. We promote theme programs like the photography workshop to offer visitors a more in-depth immersion into rural China. Daily activities are held in the community alongside our neighbours. Doug Beasley, who has mentored workshops at the Centre for six years, gives participants daily challenges-artistic quests- which are discussed with the group...

This was an amazing experience for my wife and me - what the Lindens have accomplished (and are continuing to do) is incredible! They have found a way to end up on the right side of the fine line between actual cultural restoration & just plain commercial renovation/redevelopment. Really, really admire that they have managed to create a culturally respectful...

Having been a long-term resident of China myself (off and on for 34 years), I believe that the Centre offers one of the most well-rounded introductions to Chinese rural life. This is not solely because of our historic structures, the acres of working farms surrounding our complexes, nor the daily interaction offered by our family-like relationships within the community. It...

We have most recently stayed in the Linden Centre for 2 nights. The Centre, that is most lovingly and exquisitely catered by Jeanee and Brian Linden, is a real treasure of chinese architecture, artefacts and history. To visit or, stay in the Linden Centre helps the visitor to further his/her knowledge of the chinese culture, art and of the history...

We like to say that our hotels are living museums. Nowhere else in China can you stay in nationally protected structures surrounded by centuries-old antiquities and artwork. Our hotels have been carefully curated by my wife and me, both of whom are experts on Asian antiques and art. What our hotels lack in modern comforts, for example, cement walls and...

We are a family of five who have been traveling now for over a year. Our three night stay at the Linden Centre in Dali was definitely a highlight of our trip in China. Such an authentic place and we enjoyed the ambience, food and meeting Brian, the owner and the man who rebuilt this amazing building and turned it...

Stayed 2 nights during our tour of Yunnan. A wonderful place to relax after visiting Shanghai. Beautiful grounds and breathtaking view from bedroom window. I thought the breakfast was a bit limited but our evening meals made up for it. Easy to walk around the nearby village and spend a day watching the local people at work. Would highly recommend.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. I can promise future guests that our breakfast options will improve with the opening next month of our own bakery at the Commons. The bakery will be open to the public daily and will provide both sites with a larger selection of bread and cakes. Because of our...

What a great place to stay. Friendly, clean and comfortable rooms set in a mid century merchant's house in the village of Xizhou about 30 mins by car from Dali old town; the three pagodas and the mountains and a half hour to forty five minute walk from the lake. The rooms are clean with modern bathrooms and western toilets,...

Thank you for spending time with us. It is the busy season in Dali and with the recent closures of over 2,000 illegal hotels along Lake Er (China's sixth largest fresh water lake) we are consistently fully booked. This week our musicians-in-residence will perform four concerts at the Centre and we will welcome to our second site the monthlong Shanghai...

What a find amongst the garlic fields. Friendly service, English speaking and our room with a massive bed. Terima Kasih.... In China, the authentic boutique hotel is as a rare as the giant panda. Too often boutique hotels are nothing more than havens for investment that rely on generic, non-indigenous design. Competitors try to out design or out gimmick their predecessors; thus creating a trend of hotels that increasingly is out-of-touch with their surroundings. With the focus on...
