The hotel is about 2 or 3 years old. Taxi 30 RMB to Dunhuang Train Station. We booked at last minute and room rate was reasonable. Now I check rates for March next year and room rate is even crazily low. Sorry that my pictures don't do them justice. The room itself is very beautiful with good value for money. Nice toiletries. Good hot water. Attentive staff. Simple buffet breakfast cost 30 RMB per person. I like the buffet a lot as it has everything I can eat. My husband prefers some heavy foods so next day we didn't buy breakfast. Could walk to the riverside in about 20 minutes and that's a very neat and large garden with mountain view and river view. There are stoned way so you can walk into the middle of the river. Better view in the morning. We went in the afternoon so sunlight was not the best for pictures. We also walked to Sha Zhou Market and one more local market to have lunch and to buy fruits. The picture I post is the bus stop in front of the hotel but I have no idea how to go to the train station.

I'll start with the only 2 negatives I can think of: 1) the carpet could be cleaner 2) they don't take western credit cards Other than that, the hotel was nearly perfect. The location was on a main street with wonderful restaurants nearby, and a night market a short drive away. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were front load washers and soap free for guests to use, and an indoor and outdoor drying area on the rooftop. Every afternoon, an ayi (auntie) delivered soup to the room. One day, we had pea soup, the next a sweet goji berry one. Breakfast was typical Chinese style, but there were hard boiled eggs, fruit, toast, and coffee, so you can make do if needed. The room was fine - carpet dated. The beds were typical for China - harder and there were buckwheat pillows. Shower was strong and the water was hot. The staff was attentive and helpful. There is a shuttle from the train station. My mother is a bit older now, so the hotel made sure we had a room on the first floor with a walk-in shower. Cannot say enough great things about the hotel. Booked on Trip.com

This place can only be recommended. We stayed here for 3 nights and have nothing but praise. The facilities are very good and everything is kept immaculately clean. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and difficulties with the English language are easily overcome by using online translators. The Chinese breakfast offered a huge variety of different food. And the price for all of this was very reasonable. Due to last minute changes in our travel planning we ended up staying in another hotel near by for our first night in Dunhuang. This gave us a good comparison and even more appreciation for what we were offered at Carnival Boutique Hotel. The other place - of the same category- had a promising lobby, but everything else was terrible: room, cleanliness and service. And we had to pay 25% more even without breakfast. For us Carnival Boutique Hotel is the whole package in this category.

A nice little hotel to explore the area. There's a bus stop outside hotel to Mingshashan and Yueyaquan, very convenient. Rooms are OK, clean and comfortable. Hotel does provide dessert every day. Best surprise was when a maid washed my socks! Will recommend this hotel definitely!

I hesitated booking this hotel initially as the over the top room decor is not really of my taste, but I am glad i did as it is hotel of great value. Room is big, modern, with comfortable soft beds. The hotel location is in the centre of the dunhuang city, within walking distance to the night market street. Front desk staffs are very friendly, greets you everytime you come back to the hotel from a long day out. The tour desk has great offerings of tours as well - I took up the private car hire to go to mogao cave and the mingsha dunes, as well as west line bus tour to go to yadan national park. The prices were fair and pretty standard in the area. Both are very enjoyable and worth the price. A little dissapointed with the quality of the private car hire as I thought I will be using the nicer car that they used to pick us up from the train station. Nevertheless it is a minor point as it is not for a long journey.
