Had just spent about 12 days on a train from Moscow touring Central Asia and this was the first hotel we had stayed at and I literally loved everything about. From the quirky fort like design, to the friendly professional staff, the comfortable locally themed rooms, the magnificent Chinese restaurant for dinner, the splendid rooftop restaurant for breakfast (with glorious... The resort is very large and offering various type of accommodation from dormitories to private villas.I refer to the hotel, which is a professionally managed of international standard. The rooms are homely decorated and furnished with a local touch. The beds are not local but comfyly soft. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful - particularly the concierges Eric and... More

Having left the smog of Xi'an, we were delighted to see the blue skies of Dunhuang and the cultural hotel called the Silk Road. The dunes area was lovely, quiet and cold! - cozy and warm in the spacious rooms of this interesting hotel. The service was good, food was fair, the views from the terrace roof - stunning.

Stayed here as part of a long, 18 day, silk road trip. This hotel gave us a very relaxing 2 days while we visited local sites. Nice room, good wifi access throughout the hotel (though not the fastest). Stunning entrance lobby and very comfortable room. They also let us check in early following an overnight train trip. Very good breakfast... More

Watching the sun come up over the dunes is a spectacular sight. This hotel was memorable for all the right reasons: scrumptious breakfast, comfortable accommodations, beautiful sunrise from a rooftop restaurant, friendly staff. Additionally it is conveniently located to the airport. The breakfast was buffet style and could accommodate any palate. There were regionally traditional items as well as western... More

Newly built hotel in the style of a traditional castle /fortress, 4 star. Views of the nearby big sand dunes, especially from the roof-top restaurant and some rooms. Friendly english spaeking staff, conference centre, free wifi, restaurants, spa. Outside town and about 10 minutes by car from the airport. Recommended.

Situated very close to the dunes, albeit a 5 minute taxi ride from the centre of Dunhuang itself, the hotel was comfortable and clean with friendly staff. The on site restaurant served good food and breakfast was fairly good, served on a terrace with fabulous views of the dunes. My one complaint would be that it seems quite popular with... More

After three hotels with ridiculously hard beds and / or indifferent service and / or dreadful breakfasts, this was a breath of fresh air! A beautifully designed hotel with lovely rooms & a great breakfast buffet on the roof. Lunch / dinner was not so good though!

My wife and I stayed at the Silk Road Hotel for three nights and had a great experience. Although it was just a few minutes from downtown Dunhuang by taxi, it was very simple to get back and forth when we wanted to. The staff was very friendly, the rooms extremely clean and functional, the views pretty terrific and the... More

We absolutely loved the Silk Road Hotel in Dunhuang. From the minute we walked into the beautifully decorated lobby to the time we ate in the restaurant, enjoyed the spa room, the extensive grounds of the Chinese garden and even the shops; we couldn't have asked for more. The view of the sand dunes from the rooftop breakfast area was... More
